The decision is intended to reduce visual clutter, bring advertising structures into order, and improve the appearance of <strong>Mykolaiv<\/strong>\u2019s main thoroughfare.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s chief architect, <strong>Yevhen Poliakov<\/strong>, explained that the document changes both the number of advertising structures and the balance between their formats. A total of <strong>117<\/strong> structures are planned for the avenue, down from <strong>182<\/strong>\u2014a reduction of <strong>35%<\/strong>, according to the city council\u2019s announcement. The total advertising area will be cut <strong>in half<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Large-format advertising will see the biggest reduction, with small and medium-sized structures given priority instead. The new scheme provides for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>billboards \u2014 <strong>12<\/strong>, down from <strong>89<\/strong>, or nearly <strong>seven times<\/strong> fewer; they will account for <strong>10%<\/strong> of all structures;<\/li>\n<li>citylights \u2014 <strong>75<\/strong> structures;<\/li>\n<li>medium-format structures \u2014 <strong>30<\/strong> structures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\"><p>\u201cThis regulatory act went through public consultations and discussions. We prepared it together with representatives of the advertising industry, signing numerous memorandums with them on reducing the amount of advertising in the city. We worked together, and this is the result,\u201d said <strong>Yevhen Poliakov<\/strong>, chief architect of <strong>Mykolaiv<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The city authorities and businesses have agreed that the removal and replacement of advertising structures will begin soon.
