October 25<\/strong> became an important date for Mykolaiv<\/strong> and the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>. On this day, local elections shaped the city\u2019s future, a hospital was running out of life-saving oxygen, and journalists uncovered the consequences of Russian attacks. There was good news, too: a lyceum was restored, and the legendary Yantar brewery returned to operation.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2015<\/strong>: Korabelnyi District elected new local leaders<\/h2>\n

Local elections were held in Mykolaiv<\/strong>, with residents choosing city council members and a mayor. In the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>, as of 6:00 p.m.<\/strong>, 19,598 voters had cast ballots<\/a>, or 30.67%<\/strong>. These elections marked the beginning of political change in the city: later, after a runoff, Oleksandr Sienkevych<\/strong> became mayor for the first time.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2016<\/strong>: City council elected a secretary after a year without one<\/h2>\n

Members of the Mykolaiv City Council elected<\/a> Tetiana Kazakova<\/strong> of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc as council secretary. 47 of the 50 deputies present<\/strong> voted for her. The position had been vacant for about a year after the previous local elections. That same day, the deputies also approved the mayor\u2019s deputy appointments.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2020<\/strong>: Mykolaiv elected a mayor again<\/h2>\n

During local elections held amid the COVID-19 pandemic, residents of Mykolaiv<\/strong> voted for a mayor and city council members. According to the exit poll results<\/a> released that evening, Oleksandr Sienkevych<\/strong>, with 40.78%<\/strong>, and Vladyslav Chaika<\/strong>, with 26.77%<\/strong>, were headed to the runoff. These were preliminary voter surveys, not official election results.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2021<\/strong>: Hospital No. 5 in Korabelnyi District faced an oxygen crisis<\/h2>\n

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, City Hospital No. 5<\/strong> in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> was left<\/a> in a critical situation after medical oxygen deliveries fell through. Around 300 patients<\/strong> with coronavirus infections were being treated there. Oxygen concentrators, cylinders, and supplies from other hospitals were urgently gathered to save patients. The Zorya-Mashproekt enterprise also provided assistance. On October 26<\/strong>, medical staff reported that the situation had stabilized.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2022<\/strong>: BBC revealed details of the Dnipro\u2013Mykolaiv water pipeline blast<\/h2>\n

BBC journalists published<\/a> an investigation into the destruction of the main water pipeline that supplied drinking water to Mykolaiv<\/strong>. The pipeline was damaged on April 12, 2022<\/strong>. An analysis of satellite imagery and the findings of military experts suggested that Russian forces may have deliberately used explosives. According to a source cited by the journalists, around 40 million liters of water<\/strong> flowed out of the pipe over 8 hours<\/strong>. The city was left without a centralized drinking water supply for years to come.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2023<\/strong>: renovated lyceum with two shelters showcased in Korabelnyi District<\/h2>\n

Korabelov.info journalists, together with representatives of international organizations, visited<\/a> Economic Lyceum No. 1<\/strong> in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>. With support from UNICEF and other donors, the damaged school had its roof, gym, and corridors renovated, 3 new classrooms<\/strong> created, and 2 shelters with a combined capacity of 110 people<\/strong> equipped. It became an important example of restoring the city\u2019s educational facilities during the war.<\/p>\n

October 25, 2023<\/strong>: legendary Yantar celebrated its 50th anniversary after resuming production<\/h2>\n

The Mykolaiv brewery in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> celebrated<\/a> its 50th anniversary<\/strong> in October. Built to a Czech design in 1973<\/strong>, the brewery managed to resume operations after a forced shutdown that began on February 24, 2022<\/strong>. The plant employed 206 specialists<\/strong>, all 3 production lines<\/strong> were running, and Yantar beer and other well-known brands made in Mykolaiv<\/strong> returned to Ukrainian stores.<\/p>\n

This day in Ukraine<\/h2>\n

October 25, 1921<\/strong> marked the start<\/a> of the Second Winter Campaign by the Army of the Ukrainian People\u2019s Republic against Bolshevik forces. On the night of October 26<\/strong>, the Podillia Group crossed the border to support the Ukrainian insurgent movement. The campaign ended in tragedy: near Bazar, the Bolsheviks executed 361 Ukrainian soldiers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On October 25, 2015<\/strong>, Ukraine ended<\/a> direct air links with Russia. The decision followed sanctions against Russian airlines that had violated Ukrainian law, including by operating illegal flights to occupied Crimea, as well as reciprocal bans on air travel.<\/p>\n
