During the same period in <strong>2025<\/strong>, these diseases claimed <strong>33 lives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This year, <strong>71 people<\/strong> were diagnosed with <strong>AIDS<\/strong> for the first time, compared with <strong>79<\/strong> during the same period last year. A total of <strong>230 HIV infection cases<\/strong> were registered in the region, <strong>53<\/strong> fewer than last year.<\/p>\n<p>Sexual contact remained the most common route of <strong>HIV<\/strong> transmission. The figures for the reporting period, compared with January\u2013September last year, are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>204 people<\/strong> contracted the virus through sexual contact, compared with <strong>252<\/strong> last year.<\/li>\n<li>The virus was transmitted through blood to <strong>25 people<\/strong>, compared with <strong>29<\/strong> last year.<\/li>\n<li>Mother-to-child transmission was recorded in <strong>1 case<\/strong>, compared with <strong>2<\/strong> such cases last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among those newly diagnosed with <strong>HIV infection<\/strong> this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>142 men<\/strong> \u2014 <strong>166 cases<\/strong> among men were recorded during the same period last year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>88 women<\/strong> \u2014 last year\u2019s figure was <strong>117 cases<\/strong> among women.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In <strong>September 2026<\/strong> alone, <strong>19 new cases of HIV infection<\/strong> were identified in the region, and <strong>7 people<\/strong> were diagnosed with <strong>AIDS<\/strong> for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HIV<\/strong> can remain symptom-free for a long time, so people often do not know their status.
