Instead, he listed forms of U.S. support and explained the limits of his authority.<\/p>\n<p>The journalist returned to the question against the backdrop of growing tensions between Presidents <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> and <strong>Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong>. Rather than directly define the relationship between <strong>Washington<\/strong> and <strong>Kyiv<\/strong>, <strong>Bessent<\/strong> named <strong>three<\/strong> areas of assistance that the <strong>United States<\/strong> continues to provide to <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sharing intelligence;<\/li>\n<li>providing <strong>Starlink<\/strong> satellite connectivity;<\/li>\n<li>allowing <strong>NATO<\/strong> countries to buy U.S. weapons and then transfer them to <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\"><p>\u201cWe provide <strong>Ukraine with three<\/strong> different kinds of assistance, and that\u2019s what you do for an ally. We don\u2019t provide that to <strong>Russia<\/strong>,\u201d <strong>Scott Bessent<\/strong> said when the question about the alliance was asked for the <strong>second<\/strong> time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After the <strong>third<\/strong> question, the minister said that he was neither the secretary of state nor the president. He explained that he was not authorized to define the country\u2019s foreign policy position.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <strong>Bessent<\/strong> criticized European countries for providing insufficient military support to <strong>Kyiv<\/strong>. He claimed they had enough <strong>Patriot<\/strong> air defense systems but were not transferring them to <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>, despite receiving requests to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The interview also touched on <strong>Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong>\u2019s claims that <strong>Washington<\/strong> had temporarily stopped sharing intelligence with <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> and restricted its access to <strong>Starlink<\/strong> satellite connectivity. Rejecting these accusations, the minister cited the <strong>U.S.<\/strong> president and Secretary of State <strong>Marco Rubio<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\"><p>\u201cPresident <strong>Trump<\/strong> and <strong>Rubio<\/strong> have categorically stated that no one in the <strong>Trump<\/strong> administration did that, and I think President <strong>Zelenskyy<\/strong> is being very reckless in making that accusation,\u201d <strong>Bessent<\/strong> said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The minister made <strong>another<\/strong> critical assessment of the Ukrainian president\u2019s approach to ending the war. In contrast to the argument that <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> needs to win, he emphasized <strong>Washington<\/strong>\u2019s priority: ending the fighting through negotiations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\"><p>\u201cPresident <strong>Trump<\/strong> has made it clear that he wants to end this war. It has to end. And President <strong>Zelenskyy<\/strong> put forward a false binary this morning, according to which <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> has to win. The war has to end, and it will end through some kind of negotiated settlement.
