Repairs on the section are still underway. The aim of the upgrade is to ensure reliable, uninterrupted water supply to nearby buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Along a stretch of about <strong>300 meters<\/strong>, the worn-out water main is being replaced with a polyethylene pipe with a diameter of <strong>125 mm<\/strong>. The project also includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>construction of <strong>11 reinforced-concrete manholes<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>installation of new shut-off valves;<\/li>\n<li>installation of fire hydrants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To minimize excavation and preserve the city\u2019s landscaping, the network is being laid using trenchless technology\u2014horizontal directional drilling.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\"><p>\u201cThe pipe has now been fully laid, and the new pipeline has been filled with water. We plan to complete the work entirely in the coming weeks and move on to restoring the landscaping and paving,\u201d said <strong>Artem Kolesnyk<\/strong>, executive director of the contractor, <strong>Ukrspetsoborudovaniye LLC<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Funding is provided by the <strong>Danish Refugee Council (DRC)<\/strong> with the support of the <strong>Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark<\/strong>. The work and materials are estimated to cost <strong>2.7 million hryvnias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This section is among the most vulnerable in the city: <strong>Mykolaivvodokanal<\/strong> included it on the list of sites requiring priority repairs. Its upgrade is <strong>one<\/strong> of more than <strong>20 projects<\/strong> funded by <strong>DRC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\"><p>\u201cWe understand that this is only a small part of what needs replacing, as the pipes are in very poor condition. But we have to start somewhere. We are also currently carrying out a project to restore the sewer collector on the grounds of the <strong>Strasse<\/strong> market in <strong>Namiv<\/strong>. We conduct daily monitoring visits to make sure everything is progressing properly,\u201d said <strong>Oleh Matynha<\/strong>, a water supply recovery specialist with the <strong>DRC<\/strong> office in <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Work on <strong>Soborna Street<\/strong> began in <strong>mid-September<\/strong>.
