U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong> has again criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong> and questioned his willingness to reach a peace deal. The American leader also confirmed that he had asked Ukraine to stop striking Russian oil refineries.<\/p>\n

During an interview, a journalist asked whether the Russian-Ukrainian war could end before Trump\u2019s<\/strong> presidential term is over. He replied that hostilities could end soon, but did not give a specific timeline:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should end soon. I think both sides actually want it to end. But I think it\u2019s harder to make a deal with Zelenskyy<\/strong> than with Putin<\/strong>,\u201d Donald Trump<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Another part of the conversation focused on attacks on Russia\u2019s oil-refining industry. The journalist noted that yesterday, October 15<\/strong>, Ukraine<\/strong> resumed such strikes despite earlier calls from Washington<\/strong> to stop them. Asked whether he had personally appealed to Zelenskyy<\/strong>, the U.S. president replied:<\/p>\n

\u201cI asked him, I asked him. Zelenskyy<\/strong> is not the person we should be dealing with. I think if they\u2019re going to make a deal eventually, they won\u2019t do it with him. He doesn\u2019t want to make a deal. He says he wants to make a deal, but he doesn\u2019t,\u201d Trump<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The U.S.<\/strong> president stressed that he is not a fan of Zelenskyy<\/strong> and blamed Ukraine\u2019s leadership for the war\u2019s devastating consequences. He named the personal animosity between the Ukrainian president and Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/strong> as one<\/strong> of the obstacles to reaching an agreement.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the start of the full-scale invasion, Trump<\/strong> repeated his claim that it supposedly would not have happened if he had been in power in 2020<\/strong>. In his view, Russia initially planned its offensive on Kyiv<\/strong> as a short-term operation.<\/p>\n

The U.S. president explained the halt in the Russian advance with his own version of events: supposedly, one<\/strong> of the generals failed to turn onto the right rural road, after which the tanks got bogged down in marshy terrain.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Trump<\/strong> acknowledged that the war has been going on for years and has caused enormous losses on both sides:<\/p>\n

\u201cUkraine<\/strong> has lost so many of its men. Russia<\/strong> has too, but Russia<\/strong> is a huge country. Russia<\/strong> has millions<\/strong> of people, 150 million<\/strong> people,\u201d U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The U.S. president\u2019s claims about Zelenskyy\u2019s<\/strong> unwillingness to negotiate and the reasons for the halt in Russia\u2019s advance are his own assessments, not established facts.<\/p>\n
