Of these, <strong>159<\/strong> were provided under the <strong>Medical Guarantees Program (MGP)<\/strong>, which covers joint replacement at no cost for patients who follow the prescribed care pathway.<\/p>\n<p>Under the <strong>MGP<\/strong>, hospitals provided:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>109<\/strong> hip replacements;<\/li>\n<li><strong>50<\/strong> knee replacements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Separately, the city budget funded <strong>38 surgeries<\/strong>. The local program has been running in <strong>Mykolaiv<\/strong> for <strong>six years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Joint replacement surgeries are currently performed at <strong>three<\/strong> city medical facilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>City Hospital No. 3<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>City Hospital No. 5<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Branch No. 3 of City Hospital No. 1<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An orthopedic trauma surgeon selects the type of joint implant, taking into account the condition of the joint, the specifics of the illness or injury, any previous surgeries, and other medical factors. Before the procedure, patients have the right to find out who manufactured the implant, which model is being offered, and why it was chosen.<\/p>\n<p>There is an electronic waiting list for planned joint replacement. Patients may choose a hospital from the list designated by the <strong>Ministry of Health<\/strong>, regardless of where they live. Veterans are entitled to priority surgery. In emergencies, surgery is performed without waiting in line.<\/p>\n<p>For treatment provided at no cost under the <strong>MGP<\/strong>, patients should not be charged separately for any of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the joint implant itself;<\/li>\n<li>the surgery;<\/li>\n<li>anesthesia;<\/li>\n<li>the hospital stay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Current regulations also do not require patients to buy an implant from an outside seller in order to have it implanted as part of treatment provided at no cost.<\/p>\n<p>Only additional services not covered by the <strong>Medical Guarantees Program<\/strong> may be charged for\u2014for example, a more comfortable hospital room.
