October 9, 1897, Old Style<\/strong>: the Naval Shipyard was ceremonially opened in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

The State Archives of Mykolaiv Region lists October 9, 1897<\/strong>, as the date of the ceremonial opening of the Naval Shipyard, the future Black Sea Shipyard. However, there is an important calendar nuance: the Julian calendar was in use in the Russian Empire at the time, so October 9<\/strong> Old Style corresponds to October 21, 1897<\/strong>, in the modern calendar. October 9, 1942<\/strong>: tram service resumed in occupied Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

During the Nazi occupation of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, city tram service resumed on this day. 12 cars<\/strong> took to the tracks, operating on 5 routes<\/strong>: in the morning from 4:30 to 8:00<\/strong> and in the evening from 17:00 to 20:00<\/strong>. The tram remained one of the few forms of public transport operating in the wartime city.<\/p>\n

October 9, 2013<\/strong>: students from Korabelnyi protested smoking at bus stops<\/h2>\n

In Mykolaiv<\/strong>, 10 young activists<\/strong>, including 4 students from the Korabelnyi district<\/strong>, painted stencil warnings on the pavement near bus stops to highlight the smoking ban. As Korabelov.info reported<\/a>, the participants wanted to draw attention to the widespread disregard for the ban on smoking in public places; one of the organizers was Oleh Sokoly\u043a<\/strong>, a resident of the Korabelnyi district.<\/p>\n

October 9, 2017<\/strong>: the decision to remove the mayor from office took effect<\/h2>\n

After 42 deputies<\/strong> voted on October 5, 2017<\/strong>, to terminate Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych\u2019s<\/strong> term early, the decision was signed and took effect on October 9<\/strong>. The duties of mayor passed to City Council Secretary Tetiana Kazakova<\/strong>. October 9, 2022<\/strong>: a Russian aircraft was shot down over Mykolaiv Region<\/h2>\n

As Russian aircraft attempted to strike, Ukrainian air defenses shot down<\/a> an enemy attack aircraft in the skies over Mykolaiv Region<\/strong>. Korabelov.info also reported<\/a> that on the same day, since the start of active operations in the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces had liberated more than 1,170 square kilometers<\/strong> of territory.<\/p>\n
