Ukraine<\/strong> is currently not at risk of plague spreading from Russia<\/strong>, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine<\/strong> spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi<\/strong> at a briefing. Ukrainian authorities and the healthcare system are monitoring the epidemiological situation in the neighboring country and assessing the risks to Ukraine. According to hromadske.ua<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Russia<\/strong> has reported cases of plague, prompting neighboring countries to tighten border restrictions. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization<\/strong> considers the risk of the disease spreading beyond Russia to be very low.<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately, we have no passenger traffic from that country. But we can see how neighboring countries are responding by closing their borders,\u201d said Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/strong> spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

US<\/strong> President Donald Trump<\/strong> said Washington was ready to help Russia<\/strong> in connection with a possible case of plague. He described the disease as serious and said the US was monitoring developments.<\/p>\n

Later, Trump<\/strong> said he intended to discuss a possible case of pneumonic plague in Siberia<\/strong> with Vladimir Putin<\/strong> in the near future. According to the US president, the situation is being closely monitored by US intelligence agencies.<\/p>\n

Heorhii Tykhyi<\/strong> also criticized the Russian authorities over the epidemiological safety situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, the Russian regime is repeating all the same patterns seen under the Soviet regime, when the government was unable to guarantee even a minimum level of safety for its people,\u201d Heorhii Tykhyi<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
