The President of <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> signed the corresponding decree on <strong>October 1<\/strong>. She became the first female servicemember of the <strong>Ukrainian Navy (Armed Forces of Ukraine)<\/strong> to be honored with this title.<\/p>\n<p>The senior sergeant with the call sign <strong>\u201cZima\u201d<\/strong> served in the <strong>36th Separate Marine Brigade<\/strong>. She joined the <strong>Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine<\/strong> in <strong>December 2015<\/strong>, and after training on a tactical medicine course she was deployed to the <strong>Donbas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During her service she carried out combat missions near <strong>Vodyane<\/strong>, <strong>Hranitne<\/strong> and <strong>Shyrokyne<\/strong>. Her work covered various units:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>medic of a tank battalion;<\/li>\n<li>medic of a field communications node;<\/li>\n<li>combat medic of a medical company.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In <strong>December 2021<\/strong> the servicewoman went to <strong>Sartana<\/strong> near <strong>Mariupol<\/strong>. There the full-scale invasion by <strong>Russia<\/strong> caught her. She began evacuating the wounded as early as <strong>February 22<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When on <strong>February 24<\/strong> the defense of the city began, the brigade found itself surrounded. Despite shelling and extremely difficult conditions the medic did not stop helping the wounded.<\/p>\n<p>During an attempt by the unit to break out of the encirclement, the column came under heavy enemy fire. Her comrade <strong>Yevhen Polishchuk<\/strong>, who returned from captivity, said: <strong>Olha<\/strong> rushed to save a wounded fighter and covered him with her own body.
