This decision was made on <strong>September 23<\/strong> by the <strong>Poltava Court of Appeal<\/strong>, upholding the prosecutors&#8217; arguments. The change of sentence was reported by the <strong>Office of the Prosecutor General<\/strong>. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/pgo_gov_ua\/40427\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telegram @pgo_gov_ua<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecutor&#8217;s office, the child regularly visited the man together with her mother, who was in a relationship with him. During these visits he committed sexual violence against the girl. The court found that the sexual violent acts occurred in <strong>2020\u20132021<\/strong>. In the autumn of <strong>2021<\/strong> the man also repeatedly raped the child: the court proved at least <strong>five<\/strong> such episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Expert findings confirmed severe consequences for the victim. The girl exhibited long-term psychological trauma, changes in behavior and personality development.<\/p>\n<p>The first verdict in this case was handed down on <strong>March 6, 2026<\/strong> by the <strong>Podilskyi District Court of Poltava<\/strong>. The man was found guilty under <strong>part 4 of Article 153<\/strong> and <strong>part 6 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine<\/strong>. For separate crimes the court imposed the following sentences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for sexual violence \u2014 <strong>10 years<\/strong> imprisonment;<\/li>\n<li>for rape of a child \u2014 <strong>15 years<\/strong> imprisonment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given the totality of the crimes, the final sentence was the longer of these terms. The prosecution appealed specifically the part of the verdict that concerned the sentence.<\/p>\n<p>In justifying the appeal, the prosecution emphasized the systematic nature of the violence, the victim&#8217;s young age, the number of proven episodes, and the severity of the consequences for the child.
