23 September<\/strong> left very different pages in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong>: the end of one of the city\u2019s most terrible Nazi actions, a Mykolaiv ship entering service, projects for the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>, hundreds of applications to restore war\u2011damaged housing and a farewell to a man who spent decades greening the district.<\/p>\n

23 September 1941<\/strong>: the Nazis shot Mykolaiv women and children<\/h2>\n

After the occupation of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, the Jewish population of the city was ordered to gather near the old Jewish cemetery allegedly for relocation. On 21 September 1941<\/strong> the Nazis began to deport and shoot men, and on 22\u201323 September<\/strong> \u2014 women and children. People were killed in the ravines between Voskresenskyi and Kalynivka; the research compilation by Boris Zabarko indicates<\/a> more than 6,000 killed<\/strong>. In a piece on “\u041a\u043e\u0440\u0430\u0431\u0435\u043b\u0456\u0432.\u0406\u043d\u0444\u043e” we previously cited<\/a> researchers\u2019 estimates ranging from 3,500 to 7,000 victims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

23 September 1972<\/strong>: Mykolaiv’s “Skory” entered service<\/h2>\n

The large anti\u2011submarine ship “Skory” of Project 61<\/strong>, built at the plant named after the 61 Communar<\/strong> in Mykolaiv<\/strong>, entered service<\/a> on 23 September 1972<\/strong>. She was laid down on 20 April 1970<\/strong>, launched on 26 February 1971<\/strong>, and on 31 October 1972<\/strong> was included in the composition of the Black Sea Fleet. The ship had a length of 144 metres<\/strong> and a full displacement of 4,390 tonnes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

23 September 2021<\/strong>: among the winners of the public budget \u2014 10 projects for Korabelnyi<\/h2>\n

On this day the results of voting for the Mykolaiv<\/strong> participatory budget for 2022<\/strong> became known: among the 40 winning projects<\/strong>, as many as 10<\/strong> related to the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>, reported<\/a> “\u041a\u043e\u0440\u0430\u0431\u0435\u043b\u0456\u0432.\u0406\u043d\u0444\u043e”. Among them was a project to install the park sculpture “Vitovsky Knight” in Vitovsky square costing 1 million UAH<\/strong>. The announcement referred specifically to the selection of winners and planned funding, not the completion of these projects.<\/p>\n

23 September 2024<\/strong>: 771 requests from Korabelnyi about war\u2011damaged housing<\/h2>\n

“\u041a\u043e\u0440\u0430\u0431\u0435\u043b\u0456\u0432.\u0406\u043d\u0444\u043e” reported<\/a> that as of 20 September 2024<\/strong> the commission in the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv<\/strong> had received 771 requests<\/strong> under the “\u0454\u0412\u0456\u0434\u043d\u043e\u0432\u043b\u0435\u043d\u043d\u044f” program concerning property damaged as a result of Russian aggression. By that time 707 requests<\/strong> had been processed \u2014 regarding 342 houses<\/strong> and 365 apartments<\/strong>, with 64<\/strong> still in progress.<\/p>\n

23 September 2025<\/strong>: Mykolaiv said goodbye to Vadym Andriyovych Serdtsev<\/h2>\n

In Mykolaiv<\/strong> on that day a farewell took place<\/a> for the well\u2011known greening specialist from the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>, Vadym Andriyovych Serdtsev<\/strong>. During his life he planted more than 20,000 trees and shrubs<\/strong> in the city. The Mykolaiv City Council<\/strong> notes<\/a> that for over 40 years<\/strong> he selflessly worked on greening Mykolaiv<\/strong>; in 2019<\/strong> he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the city.<\/p>\n

On this day in Ukraine and the world<\/h2>\n

On 23 September 1872<\/strong> Solomiya Amvrosiivna Krushelnytska<\/strong> was born \u2014 the world\u2011famous Ukrainian opera singer, public figure and teacher; this date is commemorated<\/a> by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. And on 23 September 1846<\/strong> the German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle<\/strong> discovered<\/a> Neptune \u2014 the planet was found almost exactly where its position had been previously predicted by mathematical calculations.<\/p>\n

Such a varied 23 September<\/strong> in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong> and the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>: from the tragedy of the Holocaust and shipbuilding history to the traces of the modern war and the memory of a man whose trees still grow on the district\u2019s streets today.<\/p>\n
