In the evening of June 20<\/strong>, near the signal-controlled intersection of Central Avenue<\/strong> and Defenders of Mykolaiv Street<\/strong> in Mykolaiv<\/strong>, an Audi<\/strong> driven by a 31-year-old<\/strong> man collided with a Citroen C3<\/strong> driven by a 50-year-old<\/strong> woman.<\/p>\n

The Citroen C3<\/strong> driver died. Two<\/strong> of her 17-year-old<\/strong> daughters, who were passengers in the car, sustained injuries and were hospitalized. Later, one<\/strong> of the girls, who had suffered serious injuries, died in the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Audi<\/strong> driver was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine<\/strong>. The police reported that he was intoxicated: during procedural actions the man registered 2.51\u2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The next day the detainee was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine<\/strong> \u2014 for violating traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person while intoxicated, which caused the deaths of several people.<\/p>\n

Later the court granted the motion of the investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the regional police investigative directorate and the prosecutor’s office and placed the 31-year-old<\/strong> driver in custody without the possibility of bail.<\/p>\n

The pre-trial investigation has already been completed. The police sent the criminal case to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office<\/strong>, and the prosecutors forwarded the indictment to the court for consideration on the merits.<\/p>\n

The defendant faces up to 12 years<\/strong> of imprisonment, as well as a ban on driving vehicles for a period of 7 to 10 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Under Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine<\/strong>, a person is presumed innocent until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.<\/p>\n
