22 September<\/strong> left a noticeable mark in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong> and the region. In 1930<\/strong> the city received a separate administrative and economic status, seven years later the Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong> was formed, in 2012<\/strong> residents celebrated anniversaries of the city and the oblast, and in 2022<\/strong> they endured a massive missile strike. In 2026<\/strong> it was from this date that the curfew time in the Mykolaiv region was changed.<\/p>\n

22 September 1930<\/strong>: Mykolaiv<\/strong> became a separate administrative and economic unit<\/h2>\n

An official historical reference states<\/a> that it was on 22 September 1930<\/strong> that Mykolaiv<\/strong> was separated as a distinct administrative and economic unit. This happened during a large-scale reorganization of the administrative system of Soviet Ukraine \u2014 seven years before the appearance of a separate Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

22 September 1937<\/strong>: the Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong> was formed<\/h2>\n

It was on this day that the Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong> was created \u2014 in 2026<\/strong> this date marks exactly 89 years<\/strong>. The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine confirms<\/a> that initially the new oblast included Mykolaiv<\/strong>, Kherson<\/strong>, Kirove<\/strong> \u2014 now Kropyvnytskyi<\/strong> \u2014 and 38 districts<\/strong>. The oblast’s territory was then significantly larger than it is today, and its borders were changed repeatedly afterward.<\/p>\n

22 September 2012<\/strong>: the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> joined the big city celebration<\/h2>\n

On that day Mykolaiv<\/strong> simultaneously celebrated the 223rd anniversary<\/strong> of the city and the 75th anniversary<\/strong> of the oblast. Korabelov.info reported<\/a> that kindergartens of the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> presented the district at a city-wide exhibition with their crafts and compositions. The ceremonial opening of Mykolaiv’s first skatepark in Victory Park was also scheduled for 22 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

22 September 2022<\/strong>: 9 S-300 rockets<\/strong> were launched at Mykolaiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At around 00:15<\/strong> Russian forces carried out a massive strike on Mykolaiv<\/strong>. Local authorities reported 9 S-300 rockets<\/strong>, of which 2<\/strong> did not explode. Residential buildings, a gas pipeline, a water pipeline, the drama theatre, the cinema courtyard and administrative buildings were damaged; there were no fatalities. Korabelov.info wrote<\/a> that after the water pipeline was destroyed one of the craters about 5 meters<\/strong> deep quickly filled with water.<\/p>\n

22 September 1980<\/strong> \u2014 Iraq’s invasion of Iran marked the start of the Iran\u2013Iraq War. The conflict lasted about 8 years<\/strong> and became one of the largest wars of the second half of the 20th century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thus 22 September<\/strong> combined for Mykolaiv<\/strong> administrative history, civic celebrations, and wartime trials. And the main anniversary of this date in 2026<\/strong> is the 89th anniversary<\/strong> of the formation of the Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
