21 September<\/strong> left very different pages in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong>. On this day a participant of Olshansky\u2019s landing was born, during the Nazi occupation the deportation of Mykolaiv\u2019s Jews to mass shootings began, decades later workers of the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant and environmental activists confronted each other near the court, and already during the large-scale war in the Korabelnyi district<\/strong> children were given Hibuki puppies.<\/p>\n

21 September 1918<\/strong>: a participant of Olshansky\u2019s landing was born<\/h2>\n

In the village of Maryanivka in the Mykolaiv region Mykyta Andriyovych Grebenyuk<\/strong> was born. The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine notes<\/a> that he distinguished himself during the landing of 26 March 1944<\/strong> in the port of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, and after the war he lived and worked in the city. In 1964<\/strong> he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Mykolaiv<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

21 September 1941<\/strong>: Mykolaiv\u2019s Jews began to be taken away for execution<\/h2>\n

After the Jewish population of Mykolaiv<\/strong> was gathered near the old Jewish cemetery, on 21 September 1941<\/strong> the Nazis, under the pretext of sending people to agricultural work, began taking men out of the city. Archival studies describe<\/a> that they were shot in the ravines between Voskresenske, Horokhivka and Kalynivka, about 12 km<\/strong> from Mykolaiv<\/strong>; on 22\u201323 September<\/strong> women and children were taken there as well. Researchers estimate the number of victims of this action at 3,500\u20137,000 people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

21 September 2021<\/strong>: supporters and opponents of the MGZ gathered near the court<\/h2>\n

Near the Mykolaiv Court of Appeal about 500 employees<\/strong> of the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant and about 70 activists<\/strong> of “Stop Shlam” gathered simultaneously. Korabelov.info wrote<\/a> that the court was hearing an appeal in a case to recover UAH 9.2 billion<\/strong> in moral damages from the enterprise. In December of the same year Korabelov.info reported<\/a> that the appellate court overturned the first-instance decision and dismissed the lawsuit.<\/p>\n

21 September 2023<\/strong>: Hibuki puppies were given to children in Korabelnyi<\/h2>\n

Mykolaiv Gymnasium No. 29<\/strong> in the Korabelnyi district<\/strong> received toy Hibuki dogs for psychological support of children who had experienced the consequences of the war. Korabelov.info reported<\/a> that they were donated by Israeli psychologist and child-trauma specialist Dafna Sharon-Maksimov<\/strong>, and the gymnasium itself had joined the “Hibuki-School” project earlier in 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

21 September 2023<\/strong>: the zoo postmarked stamps in memory of fallen defenders<\/h2>\n

A special cancellation was held for the series “Mykolaiv Zoo. 500 days of war” at the Mykolaiv Zoo. The Department of Culture of the City Council reported<\/a> that the stamps commemorated former employees of the institution Dmytro Reznik<\/strong> and Pavlo Shevchenko<\/strong>, who died defending Ukraine. The first print run consisted of only 50 copies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On 21 September 1937<\/strong> in the United Kingdom the book by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien<\/strong>, “The Hobbit”, was published<\/a>, becoming a worldwide bestseller. Also on 21 September<\/strong> the UN marks<\/a> the International Day of Peace \u2014 the fixed date was set by the General Assembly in 2001<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

21 September<\/strong> for Mykolaiv<\/strong> combined remembrance of one of the most terrible pages of the occupation, the history of the city\u2019s liberation, and more recent events. And in the Korabelnyi district<\/strong> this date also recalls how, during the war, efforts were made to support children who lived under air-raid sirens and shelling.<\/p>\n
