In the near term, interception of ballistic missiles from <strong>Russia<\/strong> will continue to depend on systems provided by Western partners.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated during a meeting of <strong>Yalta European Strategy (YES)<\/strong> by a member of parliament and secretary of the parliamentary <strong>Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on National Security, Defence and Intelligence<\/strong>, <strong>Roman Kostenko<\/strong>, the publication <strong>Focus<\/strong> reports. According to him, creating its own interception capabilities will take time, so acquiring such capability in the coming months will not be possible.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-light\">\n<p>\u201cLet&#8217;s not deceive ourselves. This coming winter \u2014 and perhaps for some time after \u2014 we will depend on our partners for the interception of ballistic missiles,\u201d said <strong>Roman Kostenko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While there are no domestic anti-ballistic systems yet, <strong>the Ukrainian Defence Forces<\/strong>, in the deputy&#8217;s view, should focus on striking Russian ballistic missile launchers and launch positions before the launches occur.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> is already working on creating its own anti-ballistic capabilities. <strong>On 18 June<\/strong> it agreed with <strong>Germany<\/strong> to work jointly on interceptor missiles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 13 July<\/strong> <strong>Ukraine<\/strong> and <strong>nine<\/strong> European states announced the creation of an <strong>Anti-Ballistic Coalition<\/strong>. The initiative, together with the Ukrainian side, was joined by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Denmark<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>France<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Germany<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Italy<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Netherlands<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Norway<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spain<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sweden<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>The United Kingdom<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>One<\/strong> of the coalition\u2019s main projects became the European air-defence system <strong>FREYJA<\/strong>. The Ukrainian side is to complete the development and production of an anti-ballistic missile.
