18 September<\/strong> in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong> is especially connected with shipbuilding education. It was on this day that the history of today’s NUK began, and exactly 50 years<\/strong> later the shipbuilding institute received a high state award. This date also recalls the destruction of the Semenivska Church, and in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> \u2014 one of the important stages of the future concession of the port “Olvia”.<\/p>\n

18 September 1920<\/strong>: the history of NUK began in Mykolaiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Mykolaiv<\/strong> an industrial technical school was opened with the status of a higher educational institution \u2014 this date is what the National University of Shipbuilding considers<\/a> the beginning of its history. The technical school included shipbuilding, mechanical, electrotechnical and road-construction departments. Thus, systematic higher technical education for the shipbuilding industry effectively began in the city.<\/p>\n

On the night of 17\u201318 September 1960<\/strong>: the Semenivska Church was destroyed in Mykolaiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Following decision of the Mykolaiv Regional Executive Committee No. 816<\/strong> dated 3 September 1960<\/strong>, it was decided to demolish the Semenivska Church due to the reconstruction of what was then Lenin Avenue. The State Archive of Mykolaiv Region recorded<\/a> that it was on the night of 17\u201318 September<\/strong> that the building was demolished, its remains removed, and a traffic circle arranged in its place.<\/p>\n

18 September 1970<\/strong>: the shipbuilding institute was awarded an order<\/h2>\n

Exactly 50 years<\/strong> after the start of the institution’s history, the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour \u2014 for training engineering personnel and achievements in the development of scientific research. This date is cited<\/a> by researchers of the university’s history.<\/p>\n

18 September 2018<\/strong>: the future concessionaire arrived at “Olvia” in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The state enterprise “SC “Olvia”” was visited by representatives of British NECTAR GROUP LTD and Qatar’s QTerminals, who were getting acquainted with the enterprise as a potential concession object, which Korabelov.info reported<\/a> the next day. The visit proved significant: already on 20 August 2020<\/strong> QTerminals became the concessionaire of the port \u2014 the government confirmed<\/a> the agreement, which envisaged about 3.4 billion UAH<\/strong> in investments in the port and at least 80 million UAH<\/strong> in local infrastructure.<\/p>\n

On this day in Ukraine<\/h2>\n

18 September 1929<\/strong> in Yalta the Ukrainian Sixtiers artist and human rights activist Alla Horska<\/strong> was born, about whom the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance tells<\/a>. And on 18 September 1965<\/strong> by decree of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR the island of Khortytsia was declared<\/a> a state historical and cultural reserve.<\/p>\n

For Mykolaiv<\/strong>, 18 September<\/strong> turned out primarily to be a shipbuilding date: from the start of higher technical education to the development of the port “Olvia” in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>. At the same time, the story of the Semenivska Church reminds that there were tragic pages in the city’s chronicle on this day as well.<\/p>\n
