U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong> said that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to mutually refrain from strikes on energy facilities. He reported this on September 14<\/strong>, 2026 on his social network Truth Social<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Ukraine agreed not to strike Russian energy facilities. Russia agreed to do the same,” wrote Trump.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The U.S. president did not specify when exactly such an agreement would take effect, for how long it is intended to last, and which facilities would fall under it<\/strong>. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/strong> explained Kyiv’s position regarding a possible cessation of strikes on critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

According to him, Ukraine proposed to partners to secure such an agreement with Russia that would allow stopping the destruction of facilities necessary for people’s basic livelihoods. This concerns not only energy but also food, port, logistics and other critical infrastructure<\/strong>. Zelensky<\/strong> emphasized that Russian forces attack Ukrainian energy facilities, ports, logistics, as well as warehouses with food and pharmaceutical products daily.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Ukraine, according to the president, is not sure that Russia truly intends to honor any agreements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“If partners are ready to ensure Russia’s real willingness not to strike our electricity, our other energy facilities, critical infrastructure, the movement of food, then we, of course, are ready to ensure the corresponding absence of our strikes,” said Zelensky<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The president stressed that such an agreement must be reliable and long-term<\/strong>, and not turn into a short-lived pause advantageous to Moscow.<\/p>\n

“So that it is reliable, long-term and has a real effect on people’s lives, and does not fall apart after the Russians hold their “elections” and obtain at that time a temporary easing of pressure regarding gasoline and diesel,” he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to Zelensky<\/strong>, mutual renunciation of strikes on critical infrastructure could become the first real step toward de-escalation and ending the war<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“The war must be ended. And a de-escalation step regarding critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace. We expect specifics from our partners,” said the president of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Trump<\/strong>, for his part, linked the rise in global diesel prices primarily to Russia’s war against Ukraine, rather than to the situation around Iran. Earlier the U.S. president also called on Kyiv to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.<\/p>\n

Thus, Kyiv does not rule out the possibility of a mutual cessation of strikes on energy and other critical infrastructure<\/strong>, but ties this to the presence of real guarantees and control over Russia’s implementation of the agreement.<\/p>\n
