The U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong>, during a visit to Ireland<\/strong>, called on Ukraine<\/strong> to stop strikes on Russian<\/strong> facilities that produce diesel fuel. As BBC<\/strong> writes, the head of the White House<\/strong> claims that Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries are allegedly causing a shortage of diesel on the global market.<\/p>\n

Trump<\/strong> said:<\/p>\n

\u201cZelensky<\/strong> has to do one<\/strong> thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia<\/strong>. Let him hit the targets, but not the diesel fuel, because that is causing a shortage of diesel fuel.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The American president also linked the fuel shortage not to the situation in the Middle East<\/strong>, but to Russia<\/strong>‘s war against Ukraine<\/strong>. He said he had already discussed this issue with President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not because of the Middle East<\/strong>, this is because of what is happening with Russia<\/strong> and Ukraine<\/strong>. We talked about this with Zelensky<\/strong>. There are many other targets. Don\u2019t hit diesel fuel, because it harms the world. We don\u2019t want him to hit diesel fuel,\u201d said Trump<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

At the same time, over recent months global oil and petroleum product prices have been rising against the backdrop of the war against Iran<\/strong>, which the U.S.<\/strong> together with Israel<\/strong> began in February<\/strong>. The Strait of Hormuz<\/strong> remains virtually closed. Previously, about 25%<\/strong> of global oil shipments and roughly 20%<\/strong> of liquefied gas passed through it.<\/p>\n

At the end of August<\/strong>, Russia<\/strong> extended the ban on diesel fuel exports until September 30<\/strong>. The restrictions were introduced on July 8<\/strong> due to a fuel shortage inside the country. Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries were also cited among the causes of the shortage.<\/p>\n

Before the restrictions were introduced, Russia<\/strong> was often the second<\/strong> largest exporter of diesel fuel in the world after the U.S.<\/strong>, notes Reuters<\/strong>. According to the agency, the Russian authorities also lowered this year\u2019s oil production forecast to its lowest level in 17 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
