7 September<\/strong> is associated with the first documented mention of the name Mykolaiv<\/strong>, the unveiling of the monument to Mykhailo Faleyev, the birthday of the head of the Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard Yurii Makarov and the memory of the pilot of the 299th brigade Vadym Blahovisnyi. This date also has a sporting side: in 2023 Mykolaiv foil fencers won two gold medals at the Ukrainian U-23 championship.<\/p>\n

7 September 1789: the order contained the name \u201cthe city of Mykolaiv\u201d<\/h2>\n

27 August old style, or 7 September by the modern calendar<\/strong>, Hryhorii Potemkin signed order No. 1065 addressed to Mykhailo Faleyev. The document ordered that the \u201cnovozavodska shipyard on the Inhul\u201d be called the city of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, and Vytovka \u2014 Bohoyavlenske<\/strong>. This is considered the first documented mention of the modern name of the city.<\/p>\n

At the same time, it is more correct not to call 7 September the undisputed \u201cfounding day\u201d: the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine<\/em> notes that the city of Mykolaiv received official city status in October 1790<\/strong>, and in that same year Vytovka was officially renamed Bohoyavlenske.<\/p>\n

7 September 1934: Yurii Makarov was born<\/h2>\n

In Kremenchuk, Yurii Makarov<\/strong> was born \u2014 a shipbuilder, academician, honorary citizen of Mykolaiv and general director of the Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard from 1979\u20131994. After graduating from the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Institute he rose at the Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard from workshop foreman to head of the enterprise. A biographical note from the Mykolaiv Regional Children\u2019s Library states that under his leadership more than 500 ships and vessels<\/strong> were built, among them the first warship of independent Ukraine, \u201cSlavutych\u201d.<\/p>\n

7 September 2002: a monument to Mykhailo Faleyev was unveiled in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

On Flotsky Boulevard a monument to Mykhailo Faleyev<\/strong> was unveiled \u2014 one of the organizers of the construction of the Inhul shipyard and of early Mykolaiv. The monument\u2019s authors were Mykolaiv sculptors Yurii and Viktor Makushyn<\/strong>. The opening date \u2014 7 September 2002 \u2014 is recorded in the calendar of memorable dates of the Mykolaiv region.<\/p>\n

7 September 2022: pilot of the \u201cKulbakyno\u201d brigade Vadym Blahovisnyi was killed<\/h2>\n

During a combat mission Vadym Blahovisnyi<\/strong> \u2014 a Su-25 attack aircraft pilot who had served since 2018 in Mykolaiv\u2019s 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade<\/strong> \u2014 was killed. Since the start of the full-scale invasion he carried out 95 combat sorties<\/strong>. In 2023 Vadym Blahovisnyi was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine. In Mykolaiv a street was named after him.<\/p>\n

7 September 2023: two golds for Mykolaiv foil fencers<\/h2>\n

The Ukrainian U-23 youth championship in foil fencing started in Kyiv. Nikolette Korlat<\/strong> and Maksym Korzhovyi<\/strong> became Ukrainian U-23 champions in the individual event for the first time. Two more bronze medals for Mykolaiv were won by Alina Polozyuk<\/strong> and Artem Korzhovyi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7 September 2025: a Russian attack damaged the Government House for the first time<\/h3>\n

During a massive Russian attack on Kyiv, the Government House of Ukraine<\/strong> was damaged for the first time since the start of the full-scale war. Fire engulfed about 800 m\u00b2<\/strong> of the roof and upper floors; no one in the building was injured. At the same time, strikes on residential neighborhoods of the capital resulted in deaths and injuries.<\/p>\n

That was 7 September<\/strong>: a date when the name Mykolaiv appeared in a document, one of the most prominent heads of the Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard was born, the city honored Mykhailo Faleyev, and Mykolaiv athletes won championship medals. At the same time, it is a day of remembrance for pilot Vadym Blahovisnyi, who gave his life for Ukraine.<\/p>\n
