Ukrainian forces simultaneously counterattacked on certain axes and struck Russian targets in occupied territory. This conclusion was published by the <strong>Institute for the Study of War (ISW)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the north of the <strong>Sumy Oblast<\/strong>, Russian forces attempted to advance, but no confirmed progress was reported. At the same time Ukrainian defenders are advancing along the railway between <strong>Taratutyn<\/strong> and <strong>Ryasne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Russian forces also attacked in northern <strong>Kharkiv region<\/strong> and in the area of <strong>Velykyi Burluk<\/strong>, but did not succeed. According to Russian sources, Ukrainian forces are counterattacking and regaining lost positions near <strong>Hoptivka<\/strong> and <strong>Kudiivka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Russian military bloggers claimed an alleged encirclement of Ukrainian forces between the <strong>Vovchansk<\/strong> and <strong>Velykoburluk<\/strong> directions. However, these claims were not supported by evidence.<\/p>\n<p>On the <strong>Kup\u2019iansk<\/strong> and <strong>Sloviansk<\/strong> directions the Russian army continued offensive actions but did not gain territory. Russian forces also conducted limited operations in the <strong>Donbas<\/strong>, but they did not advance there on <strong>September 4\u20135<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian forces carried out medium-range strikes on Russian targets in occupied territory. On the <strong>Huliaipole<\/strong> direction Russian forces also made unsuccessful attempts to advance.
