Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong> took last, 24th place out of 24<\/strong>, in the ranking of Ukraine’s regions based on the results of the national multi-subject test 2026<\/strong>. The ranking, published on 2 September 2026<\/strong>, was compiled by the educational resource “Osvita.ua”<\/a> based on official statistics from the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment.<\/p>\n

The average result of school graduates in Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong> was 129.36 points<\/strong>. The ranking included results of 3,364 students<\/strong> from 195 schools<\/strong>, who completed a total of 13 040 tests<\/strong>. The “passed\/failed” threshold was overcome in 94% of tests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The ranking was headed by Lviv Oblast<\/strong> with an average score of 139.77 points<\/strong>. Second place went to Kyiv Oblast<\/strong> \u2014 136.74 points<\/strong>, third \u2014 Volyn Oblast<\/strong> with 135.98 points<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The difference between Lviv Oblast<\/strong> and Mykolaiv Oblast<\/strong> is 10.41 points<\/strong>. From the penultimate Zakarpattia Oblast<\/strong>, which received 130.30 points<\/strong>, Mykolaiv fell behind by 0.94 points<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Among the southern regions the best result was shown by Kherson Oblast<\/strong> \u2014 15th place<\/strong> and 132.75 points<\/strong>. Odesa Oblast<\/strong> took 21st place<\/strong> with 131.20 points<\/strong>, Zaporizhzhia Oblast<\/strong> \u2014 22nd place<\/strong> and 131.01 points<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mykolaiv remains at the tail for more than one year<\/h2>\n

Comparison of the “Osvita.ua” rankings shows that the oblast has not risen above 22nd place<\/strong> at any time during the past four years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Compared with 2025<\/strong>, the oblast’s average result decreased by 2.37 points<\/strong>, and the share of successfully passed tests fell from 95% to 94%<\/strong>. At the same time, the number of participants increased by 170 people<\/strong>, and the number of tests taken increased by 692<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thus, the slight improvement in 2025<\/strong>, when the oblast moved from last to penultimate place, could not be consolidated. In 2026<\/strong> Mykolaiv Oblast again returned to the bottom of the table.<\/p>\n

At the same time, direct comparison of average scores across all years should be done cautiously. In 2023<\/strong> the NMT contained three subject blocks<\/strong>, and since 2024<\/strong> graduates have taken Ukrainian language, mathematics, history of Ukraine and one additional elective subject. Tasks and their difficulty levels also change every year. Nevertheless, the oblast’s positions show a persistent negative trend.<\/p>\n

What the ranking actually takes into account<\/h2>\n

The ranking took into account the results of school graduates of 2026<\/strong>. Participants from previous years who retook the NMT were not included in the calculation.<\/p>\n

The indicator “passed (%)” means the share of individual tests in which participants exceeded the established threshold. It should not be confused with the number of graduates who successfully passed all four subjects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to “Osvita.ua” methodology, failed tests are assigned a value of 0<\/strong> when calculating the average result, while absences from testing are not counted. Therefore the figure 129.36 points<\/strong> is not the average result of only successfully passed tests.<\/p>\n

Overall, 324,003 applicants<\/strong> took part in the main sessions of the NMT 2026<\/strong> and received results. The threshold for all four subjects<\/strong> was overcome by 275,934 participants<\/strong>, or 85.09%<\/strong>. In 2025<\/strong> it was 86.47%<\/strong>, and in 2024<\/strong> \u2014 85.60%<\/strong>, reported the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mykolaiv also ranked last among regional centers<\/h2>\n

The negative situation is observed not only in the oblast. In the ranking of regional centers<\/a> Mykolaiv<\/strong> took last, 22nd place out of 22 cities<\/strong> presented in the table.<\/p>\n

The average result of graduates of city institutions was 136.29 points<\/strong> \u2014 6.93 points<\/strong> higher than the oblast-wide figure. NMT was taken by 2,526 students<\/strong> from 60 institutions<\/strong>, who completed 9,808 tests<\/strong>. 96% of tests<\/strong> were successfully passed.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the oblast’s last place does not mean that all local institutions showed weak results. In the “Osvita.ua” ranking the best in Mykolaiv<\/strong> were:<\/p>\n
