3 September<\/strong> in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong> combined maritime traditions, the Soviet campaign against religion, sporting victories and events of the Russian\u2013Ukrainian war. In the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> that day a future champion was born, a police station opened and a high-profile traffic accident occurred.<\/p>\n

3 September 1888<\/strong>: the charter of the Mykolaiv Yacht Club was approved<\/h2>\n

The State Archive of Mykolaiv Oblast confirms<\/a> that the Maritime Ministry approved the charter of the Mykolaiv Yacht Club and granted it a site on the Inhul River on 22 August 1888<\/strong> according to the old style. In the 19th century<\/strong> the Julian calendar lagged behind the Gregorian by 12 days<\/strong>, so by the modern calendar this date corresponds to 3 September 1888<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3 September 1960<\/strong>: authorities decided to demolish Semenivska Church<\/h2>\n

The Executive Committee of the Mykolaiv Regional Council adopted decision No.816<\/strong> to demolish Semenivska Church and its fence allegedly due to reconstruction of Lenin Avenue. As the State Archive reports<\/a>, the community was deregistered, and in the night of 17\u201318 September 1960<\/strong> the temple was destroyed. A traffic roundabout was built in its place.<\/p>\n

3 September 1974<\/strong>: world champion Denys Zhumela was born<\/h2>\n

On this day the future resident of the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>, Paralympian Denys Oleksandrovych Zhumela<\/strong>, was born. He studied at School No.43<\/strong> and graduated from the National University of Shipbuilding. The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine notes<\/a> that in 2006<\/strong> the athlete became world champion in the 50-metre<\/strong> butterfly, setting a European record \u2013 1 minute 5.51 seconds<\/strong>, and also won bronze in the 100-metre<\/strong> freestyle.<\/p>\n

3 September 2022<\/strong>: Russians shelled Mykolaiv again<\/h2>\n

Around 11:30<\/strong> Russian forces shelled Mykolaiv<\/strong>. Korabelov.info reported<\/a> hits on garages, damage to a private house and two injured<\/strong>. In the Varvarivka<\/strong> neighborhood a woman sustained a shrapnel wound, and the fire on the garage roof was extinguished over an area of 7 m\u00b2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3 September 2025<\/strong>: a police station opened in Balabanivka<\/h2>\n

In the Balabanivka<\/strong> neighborhood a community police officer station began operating. The National Police reported<\/a> that local residents\u2019 safety will be overseen by Yevhen Shvaiba<\/strong>. The station on Aivazovsky Street was equipped with support from UNDP and funding from the government of Denmark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3 September 2025<\/strong>: an intoxicated driver struck a 16-year-old girl<\/h2>\n

On Okeanivska Street near Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue a driver of a car “Lada” hit a 16-year-old girl<\/strong>. According to Korabelov.info, the man was driving while intoxicated and with a leg in a cast. Later the editorial office reported<\/a> that the victim sustained minor injuries, so a criminal case was not opened in connection with the accident.<\/p>\n

On this day in Ukraine and the world<\/h2>\n

3 September 1892<\/strong> Mykola Kovalevskyi was born \u2013 a political figure and Minister of Land Affairs of the Ukrainian People\u2019s Republic. In 1783<\/strong> Great Britain and the United States signed<\/a> the Treaty of Paris, which ended the American War of Independence. And on 3 September 1939<\/strong> Great Britain and France declared war on Nazi Germany after its invasion of Poland.<\/p>\n

For Mykolaiv<\/strong> this date has left varied marks: from the development of sailing and the story of an indomitable champion to the destruction of a church, Russian shelling and dangerous incidents on the roads.<\/p>\n
