It was created in honor of Ukrainians who are awaited at home today \u2014 servicemen and civilians held in Russian captivity, as well as those missing without a trace.<\/p>\n<p>At the center of the composition is the young <strong>Taras Shevchenko<\/strong> with a paintbrush in his hands. In the background is the Aral Sea, which the poet saw and depicted almost <strong>two<\/strong> centuries ago. His works today help preserve the memory of a sea largely destroyed as a result of Soviet policy.<\/p>\n<p>An important symbol of the mural is broken shackles, through which grass and flowers grow as an image of liberation, restoration, and life that triumphs over bondage.<\/p>\n<p>The project was initiated by the city&#8217;s chief architect <strong>Yevhen Polyakov<\/strong> and Mykolaiv artist <strong>Valeria Kucher<\/strong>.
