August 31, 1931: the submarine L-4 was launched in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

At Shipyard No. 198 named after Andr\u00e9 Marty, the diesel-electric mine-torpedo submarine L-4 \u201cGaribaldiets\u201d<\/strong> was launched. The vessel was laid down on March 15, 1930, and joined the Black Sea Fleet in October 1933.<\/p>\n

August 31, 1931: a new passenger air route through Mykolaiv was opened<\/h2>\n

The local historical chronicle records the opening of the route Dnipropetrovsk \u2014 Kryvyi Rih \u2014 Mykolaiv \u2014 Odesa<\/strong>. The event became one of the signs of the development of the city’s civil air connections in the early 1930s.<\/p>\n

August 31, 2016: native of the Mykolaiv region Viktor Savchenko passed away<\/h2>\n

In Dnipro, science fiction writer, chemist and philosopher Viktor Savchenko<\/strong>, who was born in 1938 in Voznesensk, died. He was a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, the author of science fiction, historical and adventure works, and suffered persecution by the KGB for human rights activities and for distributing samizdat.<\/p>\n

August 31, 2022: the case of the commander of a Russian frigate was sent to court<\/h2>\n

The State Bureau of Investigation completed a special pre-trial investigation and sent an indictment to court against a former Ukrainian serviceman who became the commander of the Russian frigate \u201cAdmiral Makarov\u201d<\/strong>. August 31, 2023: the zoo received a caracal, a fennec and rare birds<\/h2>\n

As part of an exchange with the Drohobych zoo \u201cLimpopo\u201d, female caracal and fennec arrived in Mykolaiv, along with a Himalayan monal, Elliot\u2019s pheasant, a pair of Temminck\u2019s tragopans and an African spurred tortoise. After arrival, the animals underwent quarantine.<\/p>\n

August 31 in the history of Ukraine: the Kyiv Catastrophe of 1919<\/h2>\n

In the morning a blue-and-yellow flag was raised over the Kyiv City Duma, but the simultaneous entry of White Guard forces into the city caused a confrontation. Ukrainian troops had to leave the capital; these events entered the history of the liberation struggles as the \u201cKyiv Catastrophe\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is how August 31<\/strong> remained in the history of Mykolaiv: the city launched submarines, joined the development of passenger aviation, remembered its writers and even during the war continued to receive new inhabitants for the zoo.<\/p>\n
