28 August<\/strong> combined in the history of the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> and Mykolaiv<\/strong> shipbuilding, port investment, a temperature record and long-awaited fresh water. On this day the Okean<\/strong> plant launched immediately three barges<\/strong>, and the city water system received the first 5000 m\u00b3<\/strong> of water.<\/p>\n

28 August 1853<\/strong>: the author of Mykolaiv\u2019s water tower was born<\/h2>\n

16 August Old Style, or 28 August by the modern calendar<\/strong>, engineer Vladimir Shukhov<\/strong> was born in the town of Graivoron<\/strong>. According to his design, the well-known 32-meter<\/strong> hyperboloid water tower in Mykolaiv<\/strong> was built; it was put into operation in 1907<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

28 August 1983<\/strong>: the cruiser \u201cChervona Ukraina\u201d was launched in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

At the 61 Communar<\/strong> shipyard they launched<\/a> the Project 1164<\/strong> missile cruiser, laid down under the name \u201cChervona Ukraina.\u201d After the collapse of the USSR the ship went to Russia, and in 1996<\/strong> it was renamed \u201cVaryag.\u201d<\/p>\n

28 August 2009<\/strong>: \u201cOkean\u201d launched three barges for \u201cNibulon\u201d<\/h2>\n

At the Okean<\/strong> shipyard in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> they launched and handed over to the customer three non-self-propelled dry-cargo barges<\/strong>. Each was 90 meters<\/strong> long, 16 meters<\/strong> wide, and the cargo-hold capacity was about 5800 m\u00b3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

28 August 2019<\/strong>: the concession project for the port \u201cOlvia\u201d started<\/h2>\n

The Ministry of Infrastructure issued order No.669<\/strong> announcing a concession competition for the specialized port \u201cOlvia.\u201d The winner was the Qatari company QTerminals, with which a 35-year<\/strong> contract was later signed: it provided for about 3.4 billion UAH<\/strong> of investment in the port and at least 80 million UAH<\/strong> in Mykolaiv<\/strong> city infrastructure.<\/p>\n

28 August 2023<\/strong>: temperature in Mykolaiv rose to +38.5\u00b0C<\/h2>\n

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center<\/a> recorded a temperature record in Mykolaiv<\/strong> \u2014 +38.5\u00b0C<\/strong>. The next day the maximum was +38.1\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

28 August 2025<\/strong>: 5000 m\u00b3 of fresh water were pumped into Mykolaiv for the first time<\/h2>\n

During tests of the new trunk water pipeline into the system of MKP \u201cMykolaivvodokanal\u201d they pumped<\/a> the first 5000 m\u00b3 of fresh water<\/strong>. This was the first actual supply of water from the new pipeline after the 2022<\/strong> destruction of the city\u2019s old water-supply system by Russian forces.<\/p>\n

28 August 2025<\/strong>: deputies rejected the waste-sorting investor<\/h2>\n

The Mykolaiv City Council did not support designating the company \u201cWaste to Energy Niko\u201d as an investor and refused to sign a contract for the construction of a sorting line. The company later called<\/a> the decision the result of political games, and already a year later the city returned<\/a> to the idea of involving a private sorter.<\/p>\n

Nazi SS and police units, with the participation of auxiliary formations, killed<\/a> about 23,600 Jews<\/strong> near Kamianets-Podilskyi<\/strong>, including local residents and people deported from Hungary.<\/p>\n

28 August 1963<\/strong>: the \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech was delivered<\/h3>\n

During the March on Washington<\/strong>, which gathered more than 250,000 participants<\/strong>, Martin Luther King Jr.<\/strong> delivered the famous \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech about equality and civil rights.<\/p>\n

So it is, 28 August<\/strong>: in Mykolaiv<\/strong> they built ships and launched a water pipeline, set temperature records and once again argued over who and how should sort the city\u2019s trash.<\/p>\n
