26 August<\/strong> left very different events in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong>: two launches of warships, changes in the system for training shipbuilders, plans for a bypass road in the Korablevnyi District<\/strong>, a football victory for the port workers, the tragedy at the “Chaika” beach and a massive Russian attack.<\/p>\n

26 August 1939<\/strong>: in Mykolaiv<\/strong> they launched the future “Soobrazitelny”<\/h2>\n

At the plant named after the 61<\/strong> Communard in Mykolaiv<\/strong> a destroyer was launched that at the time bore the name “Prozorlivy”. Mykolaiv historical chronicles record that the ship was laid down on 15 October 1936<\/strong>, re-laid on 3 March 1939<\/strong> under the modernized project 7U<\/strong>, and on 25 September 1940<\/strong> was renamed “Soobrazitelny”. It joined the Black Sea Fleet on 7 June 1941<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

26 August 1967<\/strong>: from the same plant “Smetlivy” left the slipway<\/h2>\n

After 28 years<\/strong> the 61 Communard Plant saw another ship launch: the large anti-submarine ship “Smetlivy” of project 61<\/strong> was launched. It had been laid down in Mykolaiv on 15 July 1966<\/strong>, and entered service on 25 September 1969<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

26 August 1992<\/strong>: the shipbuilding technical school became polytechnic<\/h2>\n

By order of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Technical School was renamed the Mykolaiv Polytechnic Technical School. The State Archive of Mykolaiv Oblast confirms<\/a> this date and notes that the institution previously had evening departments directly at the “Zorya” and “Okean” plants, where specialists were trained for production.<\/p>\n

26 August 2020<\/strong>: a 2.2 km<\/strong> bypass road was planned for Korablevnyi<\/h2>\n

Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych<\/strong> asked the executive committee to reallocate funds for the design of a bypass road in the Korablevnyi District. “Korabeliv.Info” reported<\/a> that by agreement with the then head of “Ukravtodor”, Oleksandr Kubrakov<\/strong>, the city was to prepare documentation for a section 2.2 km<\/strong> long, after which it was planned to include it in the concrete road project from Shevchenkove to the ports of the Korablevnyi District.<\/p>\n

26 August 2021<\/strong>: “Olvia” crushed “Varus” \u2013 5:2<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On the football pitch of the “Zorya” sports complex the contenders for victory in Mykolaiv’s first league met \u2013 “Olvia”, representing the stevedoring company based in the Korablevnyi District, and “Varus”. “Korabeliv.Info” reported<\/a> that after the first half the port workers led 3:2<\/strong>, and the match ended with a 5:2<\/strong> victory.<\/p>\n

26 August 2023<\/strong>: the body of a missing teenager was found at “Chaika”<\/h2>\n

At 12:55<\/strong> divers in the Southern Bug estuary near the “Chaika” beach in the Korablevnyi District found<\/a> the body of a teenager born in 2009<\/strong>, who had gone missing the previous evening. According to rescuers, the body was discovered at approximately 30 meters<\/strong> from the shore. We mentioned his disappearance in the entry for 25 August<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

26 August 2024<\/strong>: a massive attack \u2013 3 people<\/strong> wounded in Mykolaiv region<\/h2>\n

Russia carried out one of the most massive combined strikes on Ukraine at that time, focusing in particular on the energy infrastructure of Mykolaiv Oblast. “Korabeliv.Info” reported<\/a> that around 30 targets<\/strong> were destroyed over Mykolaiv Oblast, and 3 people<\/strong> were wounded. In materials from the Air Force Command “South” it was confirmed that southern air defenses that day shot down 12 Kh-101 missiles<\/strong>, 11 “Kalibr” missiles<\/strong> and 18 Shahed-136\/131 drones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

26 August 1789<\/strong> the French National Constituent Assembly completed<\/a> the vote on the final text of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen \u2013 one of the foundational documents of the French Revolution. And on 26 August 1920<\/strong> U.S. Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby<\/strong> certified the ratification of the 19th<\/strong> Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which legally guaranteed American women the right to vote.<\/p>\n

That is how 26 August<\/strong> turned out for Mykolaiv<\/strong> and the Korablevnyi District: from the times when military ships left local slipways one after another, to plans for new roads, port football and war years in which this date brought the city and region very different trials.<\/p>\n
