25 August<\/strong> left very different events in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong>: the launching of the city’s first ship, the birth of a famous artist, a football drama in the Korabelnyi district, a minibus that passengers had to push, a road accident at a grain terminal, and a Russian missile strike.<\/p>\n

25 August 1790<\/strong> Old Style: the first ship was launched in Mykolaiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At the Mykolaiv Admiralty shipyard the first ship built in Mykolaiv<\/strong> was launched – a 44-gun<\/strong> sailing frigate “Saint Nicholas”. The date belongs to a period when the Russian Empire used the Julian calendar, so 25 August 1790<\/strong> Old Style corresponds to 5 September 1790<\/strong> in the modern Gregorian calendar.<\/p>\n

25 August 1960<\/strong>: Oleg Mykhailovych Tistol was born in the Mykolaiv region<\/h2>\n

In Vradiivka was born<\/a> Ukrainian artist Oleg Mykhailovych Tistol<\/strong>, one of the leaders of the “New Ukrainian Wave”. In 1970<\/strong> his family moved to Mykolaiv<\/strong>, in 1972<\/strong> he began studying at the local children’s art school, and in 1978-1979<\/strong> he worked as a lettering artist at the Mykolaiv Art Fund.<\/p>\n

25 August 2012<\/strong>: a football drama in Korabelnyi ended with a score of 5:5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At the stadium of school No. 33<\/strong> in the Korabelnyi district the teams “Zenit – Oktyabrskoye” and “C&O UNITED” met in the Street Football Cup. After the first half it was 3:1<\/strong>, then “C&O UNITED” went ahead 5:3<\/strong>, but in the last 2 minutes<\/strong> the opponents scored 2 goals<\/strong> – 5:5<\/strong>. This draw allowed the “Youth Council” together with “Zenit – Oktyabrskoye” to represent the Korabelnyi district in the city games.<\/p>\n

25 August 2017<\/strong>: passengers pushed a minibus heading to Korabelnyi<\/h2>\n

Around 13:40<\/strong> in Mykolaiv<\/strong> minibus No. 52<\/strong>, which was running the route Velyka Morska – the “Okean” factory, stalled<\/a> at the “Molodohvardiiska” stop. The driver asked men for help, passengers got out and began pushing the vehicle. They managed to start the minibus not on the first try.<\/p>\n

25 August 2021<\/strong>: trucks collided at a grain terminal in Korabelnyi<\/h2>\n

In the morning on the premises of the enterprise “Yevrovneshtorg” at Aivazovskogo Street, 14<\/strong>, in the Korabelnyi district MAN and Ford grain trucks collided<\/a>: the MAN driver was reversing and the semi-trailer hit a parked Ford. No one was injured; both trucks sustained mechanical damage.<\/p>\n

25 August 2022<\/strong>: Russian forces struck the residential sector of Mykolaiv<\/strong> with missiles<\/h2>\n

Around 03:30<\/strong> Russian forces shelled<\/a> Mykolaiv<\/strong>. According to preliminary information from the Regional Military Administration, the strike was carried out with S-300-type missiles: one of them hit a private residential area, setting a house on fire, and several other homes were damaged. At that time there was no information about deaths or injuries.<\/p>\n

25 August 2023<\/strong>: a teenager disappeared at the “Chayka” beach<\/h2>\n

At 18:00<\/strong> rescuers were informed<\/a> about the disappearance of a teenager in the waters of the Bug estuary near the “Chayka” beach in the Korabelnyi district. That evening the search yielded no results, and the next day, 26 August 2023<\/strong>, divers found the body approximately 30 metres<\/strong> from the shore.<\/p>\n

25 August 1991<\/strong> Linus Benedict Torvalds<\/strong> posted<\/a> in the comp.os.minix group a message about creating his free operating system – this post is considered the symbolic birthday of Linux. And on 25 August 2022<\/strong> the Zaporizhzhia NPP for the first time in history was disconnected<\/a> from Ukraine’s power grid: Russian shelling damaged the last operating 750 kV high-voltage line “Dniprovska” at that time.<\/p>\n

That was 25 August<\/strong> for Mykolaiv<\/strong> and the Korabelnyi district: from the city’s first ship and street football to a minibus that had to be pushed by passengers, port everyday life and the war that brought missile strikes to residential neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
