18 August<\/strong> left very different traces in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong>: the city\u2019s capture by Denikin\u2019s forces, the birth of a well-known boxing coach, a deadly Russian shelling, honors for medics from the Korablevnyi District<\/strong>, and the launch of long-awaited trolleybus routes.<\/p>\n

18 August 1919<\/strong>: Denikin\u2019s forces captured Mykolaiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The State Archive of the Mykolaiv Region confirms<\/a> that on 18 August 1919<\/strong> White Guard troops captured Mykolaiv<\/strong>, and Denikin\u2019s authority in the city was represented by General Yakov Slashchov<\/strong>. Pre-revolutionary order was being restored, opponents of the regime were persecuted by military field courts, enterprises were closed, and unemployment and typhus spread. Documents from that time sometimes use the date 5 August<\/strong> in the old Julian style, which corresponds to 18 August<\/strong> in the modern Gregorian calendar.<\/p>\n

18 August 1919<\/strong>: the Mykolaiv coach Oleh Prokopovych Hryhoriev<\/strong> was born<\/h2>\n

On the same day in Mykolaiv<\/strong> Oleh Prokopovych Hryhoriev<\/strong> was born \u2014 the future Honored Coach of Ukraine in boxing. The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine notes<\/a> that since 1946<\/strong> he headed the Mykolaiv Boxing Federation, coached at the shipbuilding and pedagogical institutes, at youth sports schools (DYuSSh) and sports societies, and received the title of Honored Coach in 1967<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

18 August 2022<\/strong>: a shelling took a life, and rescuers from Korablevnyi extinguished the aftermath of the strike<\/h2>\n

At about 12:50<\/strong> Russian forces shelled Mykolaiv<\/strong>: reports noted 2 wounded<\/strong> and 1 person killed<\/strong>, who died en route to the hospital. That same day a fire station in Halytsynove<\/strong> was hit: one fire engine burned down, another was seriously damaged, and the burning ZIL was extinguished<\/a> by firefighters of the 5th<\/strong> State Fire and Rescue Unit from the Korablevnyi District<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

18 August 2023<\/strong>: the minister honored medics associated with the Korablevnyi District<\/h2>\n

During a visit to Mykolaiv<\/strong>, Minister of Health Viktor Liashko<\/strong> presented honorary certificates of the Ministry of Health to city medics. As reported<\/a> “Korabeliv.Info”, among those awarded was Valeriy Dovbnia<\/strong> \u2014 deputy medical director of City Hospital No. 5<\/strong> in the Korablevnyi District<\/strong>, as well as family doctor Ruslana Omelyanchuk<\/strong>, who served, in particular, Kulbakine<\/strong> and Shyroka Balka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

18 August 2025<\/strong>: 2<\/strong> new trolleybus routes started operating in Korablevnyi<\/h2>\n

In the Korablevnyi District of Mykolaiv<\/strong> routes began operating<\/a> in test mode: No. 11<\/strong> and No. 12<\/strong>. The circular No. 11<\/strong> ran around the district from Aivazovskyi Street, while No. 12<\/strong> connected the center of the Korablevnyi District<\/strong> with the Kulbakine<\/strong> neighborhood. The launch of these routes became one of the main transportation updates in the district in recent years.<\/p>\n

On 18 August 1868<\/strong> French astronomer Pierre Jules C\u00e9sar Janssen<\/strong> during a solar eclipse recorded<\/a> an unknown spectral line associated with an element that was later named helium. And on 18 August 1920<\/strong> the state of Tennessee became<\/a> the 36th<\/strong> state to ratify the 19th<\/strong> Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, providing the necessary number of votes to secure women\u2019s suffrage.<\/p>\n

For Mykolaiv<\/strong> and the Korablevnyi District<\/strong> this date combined almost opposite pages of history: a change of power and repression, war and human losses, but at the same time the development of sport, medicine, and urban transport.<\/p>\n
