August 10 in the history of Mykolaiv and the Korabelnyi district is associated with war, shipbuilding, and the city’s restoration. In different years on this day Nazi forces captured Zhovtneve, a crossing of troops across the Southern Bug began, and in 2022 the Russians struck Mykolaiv with Smerch rockets and caused large-scale fires in the Balabanivskyi Forest.<\/p>\n

August 10, 1941: Nazis captured Zhovtneve<\/h2>\n

On August 10, 1941 Nazi forces captured Zhovtneve \u2014 formerly Bohoyavlenske, the territory of which today is part of the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv. The occupation lasted until March 1944.<\/p>\n

August 10, 1941: crossing over the Southern Bug<\/h2>\n

The same day units of the 9th Army, retreating while fighting, reached Mykolaiv in the Varvarivka area and began ferrying people and equipment across the Southern Bug. They used a pontoon bridge about two kilometers long, as well as boats, barges and other watercraft.<\/p>\n

August 10, 1944: decision made to restore the Mykolaiv theatre<\/h2>\n

On August 10, 1944 a technical commission headed by the chief architect of Mykolaiv inspected the dramatic theatre building damaged by fire<\/a>. Despite significant destruction, the main walls and some of the floors survived, so the commission concluded that the theatre could be rebuilt.<\/p>\n

August 10, 2012: Mykolaiv shipbuilders built a vessel for the Netherlands<\/h2>\n

On August 10, 2012 in Mykolaiv they presented a new dry-cargo container vessel<\/a>, built at the Black Sea Shipyard for a Dutch company. The ship had already been launched and delivered to the customer. It was the fourth hull the yard had built for this client.<\/p>\n

August 10, 2022: Russians struck Mykolaiv with “Smerch” rockets<\/h2>\n

On the night of August 10 Russian forces shelled Mykolaiv with Smerch MLRS. Residential buildings, a company, warehouse premises and a motor depot were damaged. Three people were wounded, including a 13-year-old girl.<\/p>\n

August 10, 2022: the Balabanivskyi Forest caught fire twice<\/h2>\n

Because of Russian shelling on August 10 the Balabanivskyi Forest caught fire twice. In the morning the fire affected 4.5 hectares, and another fire occurred during the day. Rescuers had to fight the flames for several hours.<\/p>\n

August 10, 2022: death toll from the strike on a stop in Korabelnyi rose to eight<\/h2>\n

That day it became known that a man born in 1964, wounded during the Russian strike on a public transport stop in the Korabelnyi district on July 29, died in hospital. Thus the number of fatalities from that shelling rose to eight.<\/p>\n

August 10 in the history of Ukraine<\/h2>\n

1907.<\/strong> In Nalchik Marko Vovchok \u2014 a Ukrainian writer and translator, author of “Folk Stories” and “The Institute Girl” and one of the most prominent figures of 19th-century Ukrainian literature \u2014 died.<\/p>\n

1737.<\/strong> Anton Losenko was born in Hlukhiv \u2014 an artist of Ukrainian origin who became one of the founders of the historical direction in 18th-century academic painting.<\/p>\n

August 10 in world history<\/h2>\n

1792.<\/strong> In Paris insurgents stormed the Tuileries Palace<\/a>. After this the Legislative Assembly of France removed King Louis XVI from power. These events became one of the key moments of the French Revolution and the de facto fall of the monarchy.<\/p>\n

1920.<\/strong> On August 10 the Treaty of S\u00e8vres was signed between the Ottoman Empire and the victorious states of World War I. The document envisaged a large-scale redistribution of the Ottoman Empire’s territories, but it was never fully implemented.<\/p>\n

1945.<\/strong> After the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the USSR’s entry into the war against Japan, on August 10 the Japanese government forwarded to the Allies an offer to accept the terms of the Potsdam Declaration on the condition that the status of the emperor be preserved.
