9 August<\/strong> in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong> combined shipbuilding, the “Okean” plant, Russian shelling, a combat operation on Kinburn, and new transport for the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

9 August 1794<\/strong> Old Style: the first ship of the line was launched in Mykolaiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At the Mykolaiv Admiralty they launched<\/a> the first ship of the line built in Mykolaiv<\/strong>, worked on by Semen Ivanovich Afanasyev<\/strong> and Oleksandr Petrovych Sokolov<\/strong>. The ship was later named “Saint Pavel”, although this only happened in 1797<\/strong>. Important clarification: 9 August 1794<\/strong> is the date in the Julian calendar; in the modern Gregorian calendar this is 20 August 1794<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

9 August 1954<\/strong>: the “birthday” of a cruiser from the Mykolaiv shipyard<\/h2>\n

On the cruiser “Mikhail Kutuzov”, built at the Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard in Mykolaiv<\/strong>, they hoisted<\/a> the naval ensign on this day – 9 August 1954<\/strong> is considered the ship’s birthday. The hull itself was launched much earlier – on 29 November 1951<\/strong>, so the common version that the cruiser was launched on 9 August 1954<\/strong> is incorrect.<\/p>\n

9 August 2019<\/strong>: “Okean” returned ALICE to service<\/h2>\n

The “Okean” shipyard in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> brought<\/a> the repaired freighter ALICE out of dry dock. The vessel was in dock from 3 June<\/strong> to 9 August 2019<\/strong>, and 150 workers<\/strong> from “Okean” and another 200 specialists<\/strong> from subcontracting organizations worked on the repair.<\/p>\n

9 August 2022<\/strong>: shelling of the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> and nearly 8 hours<\/strong> fighting the fire<\/h2>\n

At about 07:00<\/strong> Russian forces shelled<\/a> the outskirts of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, and locals reported<\/a> strikes on the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>. That same day, after another shelling, the Halytsynivske forest tract burned<\/a>: the fire was fought from 14:40<\/strong> to 22:30<\/strong>, the blaze affected 5 ha<\/strong> of canopy fire and 10 ha<\/strong> of surface fire, and the rescuers’ work was hindered by repeated shelling and unexploded ordnance.<\/p>\n

9 August 2024<\/strong>: Ukrainian landing on the Kinburn Spit<\/h2>\n

Ukrainian special forces carried out a raid on the occupied Kinburn Spit. According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, during the operation they destroyed<\/a> 6 units of armored vehicles<\/strong> and about 30 Russian servicemen<\/strong>, attacked several fortified positions and raised the Military Intelligence flag.<\/p>\n

9 August 2025<\/strong>: 9 new trolleybuses<\/strong> and two routes for the Korabelnyi District<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mykolaiv<\/strong> received<\/a> from Denmark another 9 PTS trolleybuses<\/strong> with autonomous running capability, bringing the total number of vehicles transferred under cooperation with Denmark to 18<\/strong>. The municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans” announced two new routes specifically for the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>: an internal Korabelnyi route via the bypass road and a Kulbakine – Korabelnyi route terminating on Aivazovskyi Street.<\/p>\n

This day in Ukraine and the world<\/h2>\n

9 August 1945<\/strong> the American atomic bomb exploded<\/a> over the Japanese city of Nagasaki<\/strong> at 11:02<\/strong>, causing catastrophic destruction and mass loss of life. And on 9 August 1999<\/strong> the President of Russia Boris Yeltsin<\/strong> appointed<\/a> Vladimir Putin<\/strong> acting prime minister, and on the same day named him his preferred successor for the presidency.<\/p>\n

For Mykolaiv<\/strong> this date turned out surprisingly “ship-related”: from the first large ship of the line and a Soviet cruiser to ship repairs at “Okean”. But recent history added very different pages to 9 August<\/strong> – Russian shelling, fires and a combat operation on Kinburn.<\/p>\n
