8 August<\/strong> in the history of Mykolaiv<\/strong> combined port strikes, shipbuilding, the memory of a defender from Balabanivka<\/strong>, Russian shelling and a more peaceful \u201cKavunnik\u201d in the Korabelnyi district.<\/p>\n

8 August 1913<\/strong>: the strike of loaders at the Mykolaiv grain port ended<\/h2>\n

From 1 to 8 August 1913<\/strong> in Mykolaiv<\/strong> there was an economic strike of loader-workers of the grain port: they demanded an increase in pay for unloading one pood of grain from a wagon by 1.5 kopeks<\/strong>, and from the warehouse \u2014 by 1 kopek<\/strong>. The Institute of History of Ukraine recorded<\/a> that the conflict ended with a compromise, however the new agreement for the next year was concluded on the previous terms. In the old style this period corresponded to 19\u201326 July 1913<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

8 August 2011<\/strong>: the tug \u201cNIBULON-2\u201d was launched from the dock of the \u201cOkean\u201d plant<\/h2>\n

At the shipbuilding plant \u201cOkean\u201d in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, on 8 August 2011<\/strong> the dry dock launched the tug-pusher \u201cNIBULON-2\u201d<\/strong>, built on order for the company \u201cNIBULON\u201d. It was the second vessel in a planned series of 12 tugs<\/strong>; after the launch the installation of equipment and mechanisms continued aboard it.<\/p>\n

8 August 2016<\/strong>: marine from Balabanivka Serhiy Prostyakov<\/strong> died<\/h2>\n

On 8 August 2016<\/strong> 34-year-old Serhiy Serhiyovych Prostyakov<\/strong> died \u2014 a resident of Balabanivka<\/strong>, a graduate of school No.49<\/strong> and a serviceman of the 36th<\/strong> Separate Marine Brigade. He died<\/a> from severe injuries sustained on 3 August 2016<\/strong> while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk region. In 2021<\/strong> a memorial plaque in his honor was unveiled on the building of his native school in the Korabelnyi district.<\/p>\n

8 August 2022<\/strong>: Russian forces shelled the outskirts of Mykolaiv again<\/h2>\n

Around 04:30 on 8 August 2022<\/strong> Russian forces shelled<\/a> the outskirts of Mykolaiv<\/strong>. According to preliminary information, there were no deaths or injuries. The day before, on 7 August<\/strong>, the Korabelnyi district was hit by heavy tube artillery of 152 mm<\/strong> caliber.<\/p>\n

8 August 2024<\/strong>: a \u201cKavunnik\u201d was held in Korabelnyi<\/h2>\n

In the evening of 8 August 2024<\/strong> on Novobudivna Street in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv<\/strong> they held<\/a> the family sports competition \u201cKavunnik\u201d. 6 teams<\/strong> of 6 participants<\/strong> each competed for the victory, and the winner was \u201cUragan\u201d.<\/p>\n

8 August 2008<\/strong> marked the start of large-scale Russian military aggression against Georgia. The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance notes<\/a> that over the following 5 days<\/strong> Russian aviation carried out more than 100 strikes<\/strong> on Georgian towns and villages, and later Moscow recognized the \u201cindependence\u201d of the occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia.<\/p>\n

That was 8 August<\/strong> for Mykolaiv<\/strong>: from the struggle of port workers and the work of the shipbuilders of \u201cOkean\u201d to war, the memory of a defender from Balabanivka<\/strong> and the peaceful life of the Korabelnyi district.<\/p>\n
