In the first half of 2026<\/strong>, Ukrainian parents most often gave newborns traditional names, but birth certificates also recorded double, foreign, and archaic variants across Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine reported on the results of name choices in the country for this period, publishing aggregated regional data in a special review available at the link on the ministry’s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among girls, the most commonly used names included Sofia, Zlata, Milana, Emilia, Anna, Anastasia, Polina, Maria, Solomiya and Eva.<\/p>\n

For boys, the most frequently chosen names were Artem, Oleksandr, Matvii, Maksym, Tymofiy, Bohdan, David, Yaroslav, Roman and Dmytro.<\/p>\n

The ministry noted the stability of these trends in most regions of the country: the name Sofia is among the leaders in many oblasts \u2014 from Vinnytsia and Volyn to Odesa and Kharkiv, and Artem and Oleksandr also confidently hold positions among the most popular names in various regions.<\/p>\n

Alongside classical names, parents are actively favoring non-standard options as well, in particular double names, foreign forms, biblical and Old-Ukrainian names. Among rare female names recorded were Adelaida-Loredana, Maryam-Nicollet, Dominika-Aniel, Margarita-Kilina, Abavedariya-Alisa, Aysel, Imeralina, Delli, Keili, Kasia, Patricia, Rose, Sanita, Uma and Esther.<\/p>\n

Among unusual male names this year were Daniel-Artur Teofim, Roman-Nurislam, Andriy-Andrian, Eliot-Teo, Mark-Gabriel, Amir, Leon, Sebastian, Dayan, Liam, Kilian, Ethan, Martin, David, Richard and Evan.<\/p>\n

The newborn registers also reflect names of religious and cultural tradition. For girls these include Avigea, Virsavya, Sulamita, Evangelina, Sara, Teona, Melania, Magdalena, Athena and Juno; for boys \u2014 Samiylo, Essey, Nafanael, Solomon, Emanuel, Elisha, Jeremiah, Adam, Seraphim and Benjamin.<\/p>\n

Among historical and archaic names, Ukrainians chose Bohuslava, Vladomyr, Dzvinka, Kvitoslava, Lukeriya, Olimpiada, Roksolana, Kvitka, Yaryna, Oryslava, as well as Dobromyr, Sviatohor, Svitozar, Zoreslava, Askold, Tamerlane, Eney, Panteleimon, Myrolyub and Yariy; at the same time, in the Mykolaiv region in 2024<\/strong>, alongside the classical Dmytro, Maria, Mykhailo and Sofia, the names Shahzod, Luna, Yustas and Zlatoslava were recorded, as previously reported in an article.<\/p>\n
