In the village of Balovne in Mykolaiv district<\/strong>, police detained a 62-year-old man<\/strong> suspected of killing his 38-year-old stepson<\/strong>. According to law enforcement, during a quarrel he shot his wife’s son in the head with a hunting shotgun. The victim died in a medical facility.<\/p>\n

This reports<\/a> the communications department of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred during the day on 16 July 2026<\/strong> on the territory of one of the gardening associations. A local resident contacted the police and reported that her husband had shot her son in the head.<\/p>\n

Officers from police station No.6<\/strong> of the Mykolaiv District Police Department, investigators and specialists from the forensic laboratory arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary investigation data, a 38-year-old man<\/strong> came to visit his mother and stepfather. A quarrel broke out between him and the 62-year-old homeowner<\/strong>, who had long been on bad terms.<\/p>\n

During the conflict the man took a hunting shotgun and shot his stepson in the head. After that the suspect, together with his wife, drove the wounded man to the hospital in their own car.<\/p>\n

Despite medical efforts, saving the 38-year-old man <\/strong>was not possible.<\/p>\n

Police seized the hunting shotgun from which, according to investigators, the shot was fired, as well as spent cartridges. The weapon was officially registered to the suspect.<\/p>\n

The 62-year-old man was detained in accordance with Article 208<\/strong> of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, informed him of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 115<\/strong> of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional murder.<\/p>\n

The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison<\/strong>. A court is expected to decide on his pretrial measure soon. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
