In the evening of July 13, 2026<\/strong> in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, a road traffic accident occurred in which a 17-year-old<\/strong> moped rider was injured. Police detained the 25-year-old<\/strong> driver of a Volkswagen Passat who, according to the investigation, was under the influence of alcohol<\/strong> and fled the scene after the collision.<\/p>\n

The crash occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m.<\/strong> near the intersection of Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue<\/strong> and Metalurhiv Street<\/strong>, reports<\/a> the communications department of the Mykolaiv Region Police.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary police data, the 17-year-old<\/strong> rider of a Honda Dio moped stopped at a traffic light that showed a prohibited signal. At that moment the 25-year-old<\/strong> driver of the Volkswagen Passat struck the moped.<\/p>\n

After the collision the car driver did not remain at the scene but drove away. The underage moped rider sustained injuries. Medics transported the young man to a medical facility.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officers quickly began searching for the vehicle and soon found the Volkswagen Passat with the driver not far from the scene of the accident.<\/p>\n

During their interaction with the driver, police noticed obvious signs of alcohol intoxication. The man was taken to a medical facility for an examination.<\/p>\n

As a result of the examination, 1.62 per mille of alcohol<\/strong> was found in the driver’s system.<\/p>\n

Investigators from the department for investigating transport-related crimes of the investigative directorate of the Mykolaiv Region<\/strong> Police detained the Volkswagen Passat driver in accordance with Article 208<\/strong> of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

A criminal proceeding was opened under part 1<\/strong> of Article 286-1<\/strong> of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2014 violation of road safety rules or operation of transport by a person who is driving while intoxicated.<\/p>\n

The article’s penalty provides for up to three years<\/strong> imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to five years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Currently, law enforcement is deciding whether to notify the detainee of suspicion. Police continue to establish all circumstances and the full mechanism of the collision.<\/p>\n

Citizens who witnessed the accident or have video recordings or other information about the crash are asked to inform law enforcement at 093-429-91-63<\/strong> or call the emergency line 102<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The detainee’s guilt will be determined by a court.<\/p>\n
