A serviceman from Prykarpattia, Roman<\/strong> with the call sign “Tysa”, who left his unit without authorization and went abroad, returned to Ukraine after a year. To do this he swam across the Tysa River on the border with Romania<\/strong>, after which he was reinstated to service in the NGU brigade “Khartiya”.<\/p>\n

The fighter\u2019s story was published by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Khartiya”.<\/p>\n

On March 25, 2025, Roman<\/strong> left the military unit without authorization after 6 years of service<\/strong>. He had been serving under conscription since 2019<\/strong>, and after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion he fought as an infantryman on various fronts \u2014 from the Serebryanskyi Forest to the Kursk operation. According to “Khartiya”, the serviceman has confirmed eliminations of occupiers and a knocked-out Russian tank.<\/p>\n

Roman cited problems with his commander in his previous unit as the reason for going AWOL. After leaving the unit he crossed the Ukrainian border over the mountains, went to Poland<\/strong> and worked there for a year. According to the fighter, he soon regretted his decision.<\/p>\n

“About three weeks later I already regretted crossing the border. Everyone thinks it\u2019s easy there, but it\u2019s not. You\u2019re not at home there, you\u2019re a guest,” \u2014 said Roman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Exactly one year later, on March 25, 2026<\/strong>, the man returned to Ukraine<\/strong>, swimming across the Tysa on the Ukrainian-Romanian border. After the necessary paperwork was completed he was reinstated to military service in the “Khartiya” brigade. Now the fighter urges servicemembers who are abroad to return only by the method prescribed by law.<\/p>\n

For servicemembers whose AWOL was recorded before June 12, 2026<\/strong>, a simplified mechanism for returning to service applies. A report can be submitted via the “Army+” app, the chosen military unit, or a recruitment center until September 20, 2026 inclusive<\/strong>. The serviceman may choose a unit within his structure, and after enrollment his payments and provisions are restored.<\/p>\n
