Korabelnyi District Court of Mykolaiv<\/strong> issued a verdict in the case<\/a> concerning the beating of a woman near building No. 1<\/strong> on Zavodska Ploshcha Street in Mykolaiv<\/strong>. The accused in the criminal proceedings was a local resident, Volodymyr V.<\/strong>, and the victim was Olena Zh.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The verdict was rendered on May 13, 2026<\/strong>. The case was heard in an open court session in Mykolaiv<\/strong> via videoconference. Volodymyr V.<\/strong> was charged under part 2 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine<\/strong> \u2014 intentional minor bodily injury that caused a short-term health disorder.<\/p>\n

According to the case materials, the incident occurred on September 17, 2024<\/strong> at approximately 11:30<\/strong> near building No. 1<\/strong> on Zavodska Ploshcha Street in Mykolaiv<\/strong>. During a sudden conflict with a woman he previously knew, Olena Zh.<\/strong>, the man, according to the prosecution\u2019s version, kicked her in the torso area and then struck her in the head with an object of unknown origin.<\/p>\n

After that, the court found, Volodymyr V.<\/strong> grabbed the victim by the leg and dragged her along the asphalt for about 10 meters<\/strong>. As a result, Olena Zh.<\/strong> sustained a head wound, a bruise, abrasions on both upper limbs and on the posterior surface of the chest.<\/p>\n

In court Volodymyr V.<\/strong> partially admitted guilt. He confirmed that there had indeed been a conflict with the victim, but he denied hitting her with a knife or any other object. According to him, during the quarrel he pushed Olena Zh.<\/strong> in the head, after which she fell onto the asphalt, and he dragged her for approximately 2 m<\/strong>. At the same time, the man did not deny that the victim sustained injuries as a result of his actions and expressed remorse.<\/p>\n

Olena Zh.<\/strong> told the court that that day she had met a friend behind the garages on Okeanivska Street. Later acquaintances approached them. During communication between her and Volodymyr V.<\/strong> a verbal quarrel arose. According to the victim, the man grabbed her fanny pack-type bag and threw it aside, after which he began to behave aggressively.<\/p>\n

The victim claimed that Volodymyr V.<\/strong> struck her with the handle of a knife to the head area, causing her to lose balance and fall onto the asphalt. Then, she said, he grabbed her by the leg and dragged her along the ground for approximately 10 meters<\/strong>. In court Olena Zh.<\/strong> stated that she forgave the accused and does not wish him to be punished.<\/p>\n

Witnesses in the case gave different accounts. One witness reported that he personally did not see the moment when the injuries were inflicted and learned about the possible beating of the victim only from other people. Another female witness said she saw Olena Zh.<\/strong> already on the ground and saw Volodymyr V.<\/strong> dragging her along the ground for some time, but did not observe a strike with a knife or any other object.<\/p>\n

The court also took into account expert conclusion No. 804<\/strong> dated September 23, 2024<\/strong>. According to it, the victim had a head wound, a bruise and abrasions. The expert indicated that such injuries could have arisen as a result of at least 4<\/strong> blunt-force impacts with hard objects, which could have been hands, feet, a stick, the handle of a knife, etc. The expert excluded the formation of such injuries solely as a result of a fall from a standing position.<\/p>\n

Separately, the court considered that Volodymyr V.<\/strong> had previous convictions. On May 15, 2024<\/strong> the Korabelnyi District Court of Mykolaiv<\/strong> had convicted him of theft under martial law and sentenced him to 5 years<\/strong> of imprisonment, but released him from serving the sentence on probation for 1 year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, on October 31, 2024<\/strong> the same court had already sentenced him to 5 years 15 days<\/strong> of imprisonment for another criminal proceeding related to intentional minor bodily injury.<\/p>\n

In this case the court found Volodymyr V.<\/strong> guilty under part 2 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine<\/strong> and sentenced him to 1 year<\/strong> of restriction of liberty. However, taking into account the previous verdict of October 31, 2024<\/strong>, the final punishment was determined by absorption \u2014 5 years 15 days<\/strong> of imprisonment.<\/p>\n

The court ordered that the term of serving the sentence be calculated in accordance with the previous verdict.<\/p>\n

Physical evidence in the case \u2014 a black shoulder bag \u201cSports\u201d, a black power bank, bank cards, rough notes on stickers, a pen, 20 UAH<\/strong>, a hair tie, a red lighter, mascara, a plastic knuckleduster and wireless headphones \u201cYISON\u201d \u2014 was returned to the owner by the court.<\/p>\n

The verdict may be appealed to the Mykolaiv Court of Appeal<\/strong> through the Korabelnyi District Court of Mykolaiv<\/strong> within 30 days<\/strong> from the date of its pronouncement. Date of entry into force \u2014 June 13, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
