State Property Fund of Ukraine<\/strong> plans to transfer to the balance of LLC \u201cMykolaiv Alumina Plant\u201d<\/strong> equipment intended for servicing the sludge fields.<\/p>\n

This was reported by a member of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Alla Ryazhskykh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to her, the equipment is to be transferred by the end of the month. It is needed to service the plant’s sludge fields, which remain one of the most acute environmental problems for Mykolaiv and the surrounding communities.<\/p>\n

The transfer of equipment, the deputy noted, is part of the process of addressing issues related to the operation and maintenance of industrial waste from the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant.<\/p>\n

Separately, Alla Ryazhskykh reported that an inventory is planned at the MGZ in the near future. During it, the red sludge is to be recorded on the company’s off-balance-sheet accounts.<\/p>\n

This, according to the deputy, will allow the red sludge to be further considered as an object for possible processing and reclamation.<\/p>\n

In fact, this is an attempt to move one of MGZ’s main environmental problems from the \u201ceveryone knows, but responsibility is blurred\u201d mode into a more formalized accounting. After all, as long as the sludge fields exist separately from clear financial and managerial decisions, the community continues to face the main question: who and with what funds will be responsible for their safe operation.<\/p>\n

The problem of the sludge fields for Mykolaiv is not new. After the halt of production at the plant, the issues of maintaining the sludge storage facilities, dust suppression, power supply for pumping stations and possible environmental impact have become one of the key topics in the discussion about the company’s future sale.<\/p>\n

This issue is particularly acute against the backdrop of MGZ’s preparation for privatization. For the state, the plant may look like an industrial asset that needs to be returned to the economy. But for residents of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, Korabelnyi District<\/strong>, Lymany<\/strong> and surrounding areas, it is also an object with a huge environmental legacy.<\/p>\n

In this story, the community has the right not only to observe the decisions of the State Property Fund but to take part in discussing the terms of the plant’s future sale. Because after the auction the red sludge problem will not disappear.<\/p>\n

Ryazhskykh said she appealed to the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Anton Tabunshchyk<\/strong> with a proposal for the participation of the council’s deputies in a working group to develop the terms of sale of LLC \u201cMGZ\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is pleasing that both the company’s management and representatives of the State Property Fund of Ukraine heed the advice and opinions of the regional council’s profile commission.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Thirdly, the Mykolaiv Regional Council and the specialized commission on environmental issues will always defend the community’s right to participate in any discussions concerning the ecological and hazardous future of the region.<\/p>\n

Therefore, as a regional council deputy I have sent an appeal to the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Anton Tabunshchyk proposing that the State Property Fund include the council’s deputies in the working group to develop the terms of sale of LLC \u201cMGZ\u201d.<\/p>\n

For the Mykolaiv region this topic is not only about equipment or accounting. It is a matter of environmental safety, state responsibility after the asset’s confiscation, future privatization terms, and whether the community will have a real voice in deciding the company’s fate.<\/p>\n
