In the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv<\/strong>, the modernization of water supply networks is ongoing with the support of Denmark<\/strong>. The project aims to help reduce water losses, detect failures more quickly and monitor the actual condition of pipes that for years have remained one of the most painful problems for the district’s residents.<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Serhii Korenev<\/strong> spoke about the progress of the work during the briefing on 15 June 2026<\/strong>. The project is financed by the government of Denmark<\/strong> through the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation NEFCO<\/strong>. It provides for the replacement and rehabilitation of pipes, installation of meters, and equipment that will allow leaks and network damage to be detected more promptly.<\/p>\n

Overall, the project plans to replace 26 kilometers<\/strong> of water supply networks. According to Serhii Korenev<\/strong>, the project was divided into two<\/strong> major components and 14<\/strong> separate subprojects. The first component is being implemented by a Danish company. It consists of three<\/strong> subprojects: work on one of them is already 87%<\/strong> complete, the second is in the design stage, and the third is at the stage of obtaining a permit to start construction.<\/p>\n

The second component is carried out by Ukrainian contractors \u2014 companies from Mykolaiv<\/strong> and Kyiv<\/strong>. It covers 11<\/strong> subprojects. Within the first group of these subprojects the works are already roughly halfway complete. In the second group one project has received a construction permit, while the rest are still in the design stage. In the third group work is already underway on two<\/strong> sites with readiness of about 50%<\/strong>, and the necessary permits are being obtained for two<\/strong> more.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the head of the Danish Embassy office in Mykolaiv<\/strong>, Jakob Hansen<\/strong>, explained that in some parts of the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> water losses in the networks exceed 50%<\/strong>. That means a significant portion of the resource either physically leaks through damaged pipes or is not accounted for as commercial losses.<\/p>\n

Jakob Hansen<\/strong> noted that it is precisely the new pipes, meters and modern equipment that should allow \u201cMykolaivvodokanal<\/strong>\u201d to more quickly see where leaks and damage occur.<\/p>\n
