On the last day of the month Odesa<\/strong> traditionally honors its Heroes. This was reported by the head of Odesa City Military Administration Serhii Lysak<\/strong> on his Facebook page. Today the city held the memorial event “Bell of Memory”<\/strong>, dedicated to Ukrainian defenders who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence in May during the period from 2014 to 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to Serhii Lysak<\/strong>, participants of the ceremony, with a joint prayer, a minute of silence and symbolic strikes of the bell, remembered each person who fell in battle. A special moment of the event was the presentation of a state award to the family of the fallen serviceman. For personal courage and selflessness the Order “For Courage” III degree<\/strong> was awarded posthumously to soldier Vadym Filipenko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Vadym Filipenko<\/strong> served as a grenade launcher operator in the 79th Separate Air Assault Tavriisk Brigade<\/strong>. He was killed in April 2024<\/strong> while carrying out a combat mission in the Donetsk region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The head of Odesa City Military Administration Serhii Lysak<\/strong> presented the order to the Hero’s wife Hanna<\/strong> and his son Mykyta<\/strong>. Serhii Lysak<\/strong> emphasized that Odesa<\/strong> will always remember the price of its freedom and the names of those who won it.<\/p>\n

The war that Russia is waging against Ukraine<\/strong> adds new names every month to the list of those who gave their lives for the country. And such ceremonies – are not a formality, but a reminder to the living of the price of Ukrainian independence.<\/strong><\/p>\n
