The aim was simple and cynical: to give men of conscription age formal grounds for postponement from mobilization. The case was reported by Attorney General <strong data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1635\">Ruslan Kravchenko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1676\" data-end=\"2044\">Investigators believe the organizer of the scheme was the rector and owner of a private university in <strong data-start=\"1761\" data-end=\"1774\">Zaporizhzhia<\/strong>. According to law enforcement, he involved his daughter, who worked as vice-rector for academic and scientific work, another <strong data-start=\"1909\" data-end=\"1914\">3<\/strong> vice-rectors, the deputy director of one of the institutes, the head of the information systems center, and staff of the postgraduate department.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2046\" data-end=\"2293\">The fictitious &#8220;studies&#8221; were arranged through forged documents, the entry of false data, and illegal interference with the state database <strong data-start=\"2171\" data-end=\"2180\">EDEBO<\/strong>. Admission documents, investigators say, were created retroactively, and the &#8220;postgraduates&#8221; did not actually attend classes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2295\" data-end=\"2467\">Over <strong data-start=\"2298\" data-end=\"2303\">2<\/strong> years, almost <strong data-start=\"2349\" data-end=\"2363\">3,500<\/strong> men of conscription age were illegally registered through this scheme. About <strong data-start=\"2399\" data-end=\"2410\">3,000<\/strong> of them obtained grounds for postponement from mobilization.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2469\" data-end=\"2683\">Investigators separately note the scale of the excess over the licensed capacity. The institution was allowed to accept no more than <strong data-start=\"2580\" data-end=\"2587\">265<\/strong> postgraduates, but in practice, according to law enforcement, that limit was exceeded by <strong data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2676\">13<\/strong> times.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2685\" data-end=\"2930\">The cost of the &#8220;services&#8221; consisted of two parts. The first \u2014 the official tuition payment, almost <strong data-start=\"2769\" data-end=\"2789\">20,000 hryvnias<\/strong> for <strong data-start=\"2793\" data-end=\"2798\">2<\/strong> semesters. After that, the <strong data-start=\"3170\" data-end=\"3177\">Ministry of Education and Science (MES)<\/strong> annulled the university&#8217;s license to train postgraduates.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3237\" data-end=\"3524\">All the defendants are charged with participation in a criminal organization, bribery, document fraud, interference with IT systems, and obstructing the lawful activities of the <strong data-start=\"3399\" data-end=\"3406\">Armed Forces of Ukraine<\/strong>. The scheme&#8217;s organizer is additionally charged with creating a criminal organization and legalizing illegally obtained funds.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3526\" data-end=\"3785\">This story looks especially painful against the backdrop of the war, when thousands of Ukrainians serve in the military and their families live in constant anxiety.
