The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, explained under what conditions the war could end as early as 2026. He said this in an interview with the publication Interfax-Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Reporters reminded the head of the Mykolaiv region of his earlier statements about expecting the war to end this year and asked whether he still considers that scenario realistic.<\/p>\n

Vitaliy Kim replied that at the end of last year the diplomatic route seemed more promising, but the outcome depends not only on Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\u201cForecasts, as they say, are a thankless task. At the end of last year it seemed that the diplomatic track could bring quick results. However, that also depended not only on Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to Kim, in Russia they may believe that its economy can withstand the pressure of sanctions. He named rising oil prices due to the escalation in the Middle East as an additional factor, which could bolster the aggressor country’s confidence.<\/p>\n

Because of this, as the head of the OVA noted, Russia is not hurrying toward productive negotiations and diplomatic solutions.<\/p>\n

Vitaliy Kim believes that the chance of the war ending this year will directly depend on whether the peace track is activated by August.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo let’s put it this way: I think that if the peace track is activated by August, then there will be chances for the war to end this year. If not, then we will continue to fight. Personally, I see that the President of Ukraine and the Ukrainian negotiating team are constantly working on a diplomatic settlement, so I hope that the war will end and we can begin rebuilding the country,\u201d concluded the head of the Mykolaiv OVA.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
