In Ukraine officials announced a technological breakthrough in countering Russian hypersonic “Kinzhal” missiles: the domestic electronic warfare system “Lima” has demonstrated the ability to disrupt the guidance of these munitions in flight, which takes on particular significance against the backdrop of a shortage of missiles for Patriot air defenses.<\/p>\n

As Kyiv Independent<\/a> reports, “Lima” was developed by the Ukrainian company Cascade Systems and operates at ranges up to 300<\/strong> km, disrupting missile navigation and, in some cases, forcing them to fall without detonating.<\/p>\n

“When we deployed our EW wall, of 59<\/strong> Kinzhal missiles fired only one reached the target. All the others were suppressed,” \u2014 said the commander of the air defense unit “Night Watch” with the callsign Alkhimik.<\/p>\n

According to him, since last summer the system has prevented at least 58<\/strong> Kinzhal strikes, of which 26<\/strong> occurred in the first three months of 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The key feature of “Lima” is a third type of signal \u2014 essentially a cyberattack that deceives the missile, severs its link to satellites and substitutes navigation data.<\/p>\n

“This system truly has no analogues. No one had previously managed to suppress 16<\/strong>– and 32<\/strong>-channel CRPA antennas, let alone at such ranges,” \u2014 said the head of EW of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Maksym Skoretskyi.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Besides Kinzhal missiles, “Lima” has shown effectiveness against Shahed drones, and it also reduces the accuracy of Iskander ballistic missile strikes \u2014 misses have already reached hundreds of meters.<\/p>\n

According to experts, about $1.8<\/strong> billion is sufficient to fully cover Ukraine against all types of Russian missiles and UAVs \u2014 an amount comparable to the cost of just two Patriot systems.<\/p>\n
