For consideration by the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council<\/strong>, a series of draft decisions have been submitted concerning an increase in fares on buses operating in the modes of movement “route taxi” and “regular”. The meeting at which these documents are to be reviewed is scheduled for April 22, 2026<\/strong>, and the draft decisions themselves have been published on the city council’s official website.<\/p>\n

If the executive committee supports these decisions, the new tariffs will come into force on April 27, 2026<\/strong>. For routes up to 10 km<\/strong> in length, the fare is proposed to be set at 18 UAH<\/strong>, and for routes over 10 km<\/strong> – 20 UAH<\/strong> per paying passenger and baggage.<\/p>\n

The drafts separately specify increased tariffs for remote neighborhoods. A trip to the Varvarivka microdistrict<\/strong> may cost 20 UAH<\/strong>, to the Matviivka microdistrict<\/strong> – 25 UAH<\/strong>, to the V. Korenikha microdistrict<\/strong> – 25 UAH<\/strong>, and to the M. Korenikha microdistrict<\/strong> – already 30 UAH<\/strong>. This last figure looks most painful for passengers who already depend on a few long routes.<\/p>\n

For schoolchildren the drafts provide a separate rule: students in grades 1\u201311<\/strong> and grade 12<\/strong> of Mykolaiv’s general secondary education institutions will be able to travel at 50%<\/strong> of the ticket price<\/strong>, but only during the period from September 1<\/strong> to June 1<\/strong> and only upon presentation of a student ID. In other words, this is not a permanent year-round concession, but only for the academic period.<\/p>\n

Decisions are being prepared separately for each carrier, although the texts of the drafts are practically identical. They concern the enterprises \u0422\u041e\u0412 \u0444\u0456\u0440\u043c\u0430 “\u041f\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0442\u0430\u0432\u0442\u043e\u043b\u044e\u043a\u0441”<\/strong>, \u0422\u041e\u0412 “\u0410\u043b\u0430\u043d-\u0422\u0435\u0445\u043d\u043e”<\/strong>, \u041f\u041f “\u0410\u0432\u0442\u043e-\u0412\u0456\u043e\u043b\u0430”<\/strong>, \u0422\u041e\u0412 \u0432\u0438\u0440\u043e\u0431\u043d\u0438\u0447\u043e-\u043a\u043e\u043c\u0435\u0440\u0446\u0456\u0439\u043d\u0430 \u0444\u0456\u0440\u043c\u0430 “\u0413\u0443\u0440\u0438\u0433-\u0441\u0435\u0440\u0432\u0456\u0441”<\/strong>, \u0422\u041e\u0412 “\u0415\u0442\u0430\u043b\u043e\u043d\u0430\u0432\u0442\u043e”<\/strong>, \u0422\u041e\u0412 “\u0404\u0432\u0440\u043e\u0442\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0445\u0441\u0435\u0440\u0432\u0456\u0441”<\/strong>, \u041f\u041f “\u0406\u0412\u0410”<\/strong>, \u041f\u041f “\u041c\u0406\u0421”<\/strong> and \u041c\u041f\u041f “\u0422\u0424\u0422”<\/strong>. It is these companies for which the executive committee will have to vote with separate decisions.<\/p>\n

The preconditions for this move appeared back in late March 2026<\/strong>, when private carriers officially appealed to the city council with a request to review tariffs. The head of the Department of Transport Complex, Communications and Telecommunications, Oleh Kuksa<\/strong>, then explained that carriers justify this primarily by rising fuel costs, and their proposals are under consideration.<\/p>\n

Against this background, it is worth remembering that in Mykolaiv<\/strong> the topic of transport has long gone beyond fares alone. People regularly complain about long intervals, overcrowded vehicles, non-compliance with route patterns and the technical condition of buses. In particular, in the Korabelnyi District<\/strong> residents complained about route No. 17<\/strong>, which is served by the company “\u0415\u0442\u0430\u043b\u043e\u043d\u0430\u0432\u0442\u043e”<\/strong>: passengers wrote about waits of up to 30 minutes<\/strong>, poor vehicle condition and disruptions in service.<\/p>\n

That is why the new price increase will be perceived by many not as an “economically inevitable step”, but as yet another fare rise without noticeable improvement in service quality. Especially since as of March 1, 2025<\/strong> the city already raised tariffs for municipal transport: for buses of KP “Mykolaivpastrans”<\/strong> within the city they amount to 15 UAH<\/strong>, to some remote microdistricts – 18<\/strong> and 20 UAH<\/strong>, and in electric transport – 8<\/strong> or 10 UAH<\/strong> depending on the payment method. Now it is the turn of private routes.<\/p>\n

Effectively, residents are being asked to accept the new fare already from April 27<\/strong>, although the main question for most passengers remains the same: will they see not only a new price on the ticket for that money, but also real discipline from carriers, reasonable intervals and a decent level of service.<\/p>\n
