During the administrative meeting at the city council on Monday, April 6<\/strong> 2026, the director of MKP “Mykolaivvodokanal” Hennadiy Izyumov<\/strong> stated that the quality of the water centrally supplied to residents of Mykolaiv<\/strong> has improved. However, it still does not reach drinking-water standards, so the city has not yet announced a specific date when tap water can be safely consumed.<\/p>\n

According to the head of the enterprise, the turbidity of the tap water currently stands at 0.8<\/strong> against a norm of 0.58<\/strong>. In addition, elevated oxidizability is recorded almost constantly, and it is precisely this that so far prevents the water from being recognized as potable.<\/p>\n

The discussion took place during Hennadiy Izyumov<\/strong>‘s response to a question from the mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych<\/strong> about when Mykolaiv residents will be able to drink water straight from the tap.<\/p>\n

“Theoretically you can even now,” – said the director of “Mykolaivvodokanal”.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After that answer, laughter rang out in the hall. Then Hennadiy Izyumov<\/strong> explained that a final conclusion regarding the suitability of the water for drinking can only be made after the new water supply source has been operated for a full year. He also noted that the upcoming seasonal factor of algal bloom may affect water quality, so the situation will continue to be monitored.<\/p>\n

In response, Oleksandr Sienkevych<\/strong> suggested that the head of the water utility give not an abstract term but a concrete date when he would be able to drink a glass of tap water in front of journalists. The director of the enterprise promised to report this at the next meeting in about a month.<\/strong><\/p>\n
