In 2025<\/strong> the state program to encourage medical professionals to work in rural areas in the Mykolaiv region proved almost fruitless: during a briefing the head of the Mykolaiv OVA Health Department, Iryna Tkachenko<\/strong>, reported that over the year a one-time payment of 200<\/strong> thousand hryvnias was received by only 1<\/strong> specialist who signed a contract with a rural medical facility.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the staffing shortage in the region\u2019s medical institutions has persisted for more than one year, and despite joint efforts by the state and communities, the effectiveness of some measures remains minimal.<\/p>\n

During the briefing Iryna Tkachenko<\/strong> described the scale of the problem and summarized the impact of the government incentives as follows.<\/p>\n

\u2013 There is a serious staff shortage that was mentioned earlier. In 2025 the government launched initiatives to create conditions for attracting young specialists: providing housing in rural areas and a one-time state support payment of 200 thousand hryvnias. However, over the year only one medical worker in the region received this payment after signing a contract with a rural medical institution<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

At the same time, communities are trying to address the shortage of specialists with their own tools. For the doctors of the Bashtanska multi-specialty hospital in 2025<\/strong>, 2<\/strong> apartments were purchased, and the purchase of another 1<\/strong> dwelling is planned for 2026<\/strong>. The Bereznehuvatska central district hospital received a 3<\/strong>-room apartment ready for medical staff to move into. In Domanivka<\/strong>, thanks to partners\u2019 support, a modular house was transferred to the community for doctors among internally displaced persons (IDPs).<\/p>\n

Iryna Tkachenko<\/strong> emphasized that the region expects the return of its specialists and is grateful to partners for their help in providing housing for medical workers.<\/p>\n
