It has become known that the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, together with the State Bureau of Investigation, is conducting a pre-trial investigation concerning People’s Deputy Maryana Bezuhla<\/strong> \u2014 the relevant information about the deputy was entered into the ERDR<\/strong> (Unified Register of Pre-Trial Decisions) in compliance with rulings of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv following applicants’ petitions.<\/p>\n

It is likely about proceedings in which investigators are checking whether Maryana Bezuhla’s public statements could have harmed Ukrainian servicemen. The investigation must determine whether there was a causal link between her statements and events at the front. People’s Deputy Serhii Taruta<\/strong> on March 17, 2026 stated<\/a> that together with Fedor Venislavskyi<\/strong> he had appealed to law enforcement to investigate the deputy’s actions after her statements about the 72nd brigade, which was holding the defense near Vuhledar:<\/p>\n

“The Prosecutor General’s Office has opened proceedings against Maryana Bezuhla under an article on state treason<\/strong>. It concerns Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2014 actions in conditions of martial law. This is no longer political debate \u2014 this is a matter of state security. The investigation is checking whether Bezuhla’s public statements could have harmed Ukrainian servicemen. And, unfortunately, there are concrete examples.<\/p>\n

After information was disseminated about the 72nd brigade that was holding Vuhledar:<\/strong>
\n\u2014 a planned rotation was disrupted
\n\u2014 defensive positions were lost.<\/p>\n

After her statements about the \u201cwithdrawal of the brigade from Vuhledar\u201d<\/strong> within less than a day the Russians redeployed significant forces to that direction.<\/p>\n

And this is not an isolated case.
\nWhen public activity leads to:
\n\u2014 losses among servicemen
\n\u2014 weakening of the defense
\n\u2014 demoralization of the army
\nit is no longer about “freedom of speech”. It is about responsibility.<\/p>\n

Together with my colleague Fedor Venislavskyi we submitted the corresponding appeal. And importantly: the Prosecutor General’s Office was compelled to open proceedings by court order<\/strong>“, \u2014 Taruta wrote on “Facebook”.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Maryana Bezuhla herself, amid reports about the opening of proceedings, briefly reacted on social media with the phrase: “You can’t intimidate me”<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At the same time, there are no conclusions about the deputy’s guilt at this time, and the legal assessment of her actions must be made by the investigation and, if necessary, by a court.<\/p>\n
