The state <\/span>LLC “<\/span>Mykolaiv <\/span>Alumina <\/span>Plant”<\/span><\/strong> refused <\/span>to provide <\/span>journalists <\/span>with information <\/span>about <\/span>the salary <\/span>of its <\/span>head <\/span>Oleksiy <\/span>Anatoliyovych <\/span>Medvid<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>citing <\/span>that <\/span>the enterprise <\/span>operates <\/span>on <\/span>the principles <\/span>of self-financing <\/span>and <\/span>does not <\/span>receive <\/span>funds <\/span>from <\/span>the budget. <\/span>The editorial <\/span>office sent <\/span>a request <\/span>regarding <\/span>the director’s <\/span>salary <\/span>on <\/span>20 <\/span>January <\/span>2026 <\/span><\/span><\/strong> through <\/span>the State <\/span>Property <\/span>Fund <\/span>of Ukraine<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>however, <\/span>the plant <\/span>itself stated <\/span>that <\/span>it could not <\/span>respond <\/span>on the merits <\/span>because <\/span>it had not <\/span>received <\/span>the text <\/span>of the request, <\/span>and also <\/span>advised <\/span>to look <\/span>for information <\/span>in <\/span>the open <\/span>declarations <\/span>register.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, <\/span>the Unified <\/span>State <\/span>Register <\/span>of Declarations <\/span>does contain <\/span>data <\/span>on the <\/span>head’s <\/span>income. <\/span>According <\/span>to the <\/span>annual <\/span>declaration <\/span>for <\/span>2024 <\/span><\/span><\/strong>, filed <\/span>on 17 <\/span>March <\/span>2025<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>Oleksiy <\/span>Anatoliyovych <\/span>Medvid<\/span><\/strong> received from <\/span>LLC “<\/span>Mykolaiv <\/span>Alumina <\/span>Plant”<\/span><\/strong> 13 <\/span>946 <\/span>666 <\/span>UAH<\/span><\/strong> in salary. <\/span>His <\/span>wife <\/span>Tetiana <\/span>Medvid<\/span><\/strong> declared <\/span>31 <\/span>932 <\/span>UAH<\/span><\/strong> in pension. <\/span>The declaration <\/span>also notes <\/span>significant <\/span>cash assets \u2014 <\/span>246 <\/span>000 <\/span>US dollars <\/span>in cash<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

These figures <\/span>look <\/span>particularly <\/span>stark <\/span>against <\/span>the real <\/span>condition <\/span>of the <\/span>enterprise. <\/span>MGZ<\/span><\/strong> has in fact <\/span>not been <\/span>operating <\/span>since <\/span>February <\/span>2022<\/span><\/strong> after the <\/span>start <\/span>of the <\/span>full-scale <\/span>war, <\/span>and now <\/span>the state <\/span>is preparing <\/span>it for <\/span>sale. <\/span>According <\/span>to materials <\/span>korabelov.<\/span>info<\/span><\/strong>, in <\/span>2026 <\/span><\/span><\/strong> the plant <\/span>was included <\/span>in the <\/span>list <\/span>of objects <\/span>planned <\/span>for priority <\/span>privatization, <\/span>and <\/span>the State <\/span>Property <\/span>Fund <\/span>of Ukraine<\/span><\/strong> is already <\/span>searching <\/span>for a <\/span>potential <\/span>buyer <\/span>for this <\/span>asset.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with <\/span>the plant, <\/span>the new <\/span>owner <\/span>will inherit <\/span>one of <\/span>the region’s <\/span>most dangerous <\/span>industrial <\/span>legacies \u2014 <\/span>the tailings <\/span>fields. <\/span>Over the <\/span>years of <\/span>the plant’s <\/span>operation, <\/span>more than <\/span>47\u2013<\/span>48 <\/span>million <\/span>tonnes<\/span><\/strong> of toxic <\/span>red sludge <\/span>have accumulated <\/span>there <\/span>over an <\/span>area of <\/span>about <\/span>400 <\/span>hectares<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span>Ecologists <\/span>have long <\/span>called <\/span>these dumps “<\/span>an ecological <\/span>bomb” <\/span>near <\/span>Mykolaiv<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>because <\/span>surface <\/span>drying <\/span>leads <\/span>to dusting, <\/span>and <\/span>strong <\/span>winds <\/span>can <\/span>carry <\/span>the poisonous <\/span>dust <\/span>for tens <\/span>of kilometers.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the <\/span>same time, <\/span>according to <\/span>korabelov.<\/span>info<\/span><\/strong>, in <\/span>2026 <\/span><\/span><\/strong> the enterprise <\/span>had already <\/span>reported <\/span>a possible <\/span>shortage <\/span>of funds <\/span>to service <\/span>the tailings <\/span>fields. <\/span>To keep <\/span>them in <\/span>a safe <\/span>condition, <\/span>continuous <\/span>operation <\/span>of pumping <\/span>stations and <\/span>irrigation <\/span>systems <\/span>is required <\/span>to prevent <\/span>the wastes <\/span>from drying <\/span>out and <\/span>to stop <\/span>toxic <\/span>particles <\/span>from entering <\/span>the air.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thus, <\/span>while the <\/span>state <\/span>plant is <\/span>not operating, <\/span>is being <\/span>prepared <\/span>for privatization <\/span>and at <\/span>the same <\/span>time requires <\/span>funds <\/span>to maintain <\/span>potentially <\/span>dangerous <\/span>dumps, <\/span>its head <\/span>declared <\/span>almost <\/span>14 <\/span>million <\/span>hryvnias<\/span><\/strong> in annual <\/span>salary. <\/span>The company <\/span>officially <\/span>refused <\/span>to confirm <\/span>the exact <\/span>amount <\/span>of this <\/span>salary to <\/span>journalists.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a <\/span>response <\/span>to the <\/span>online <\/span>publication <\/span>“<\/span>NikVesti”<\/span><\/strong> dated <\/span>06 <\/span>March <\/span>2026<\/span><\/strong> and signed <\/span>by <\/span>acting CEO <\/span>Oleksiy <\/span>Anatoliyovych <\/span>Medvid<\/span><\/strong>, the <\/span>company explained <\/span>its position <\/span>regarding <\/span>the non-disclosure <\/span>of the salary.<\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>Since the company <\/span>is an <\/span>independent <\/span>economic <\/span>entity whose <\/span>activities are <\/span>carried out <\/span>on the <\/span>principles of <\/span>full cost <\/span>recovery and <\/span>self-financing, <\/span>does not <\/span>receive funding <\/span>from the <\/span>State Budget, <\/span>and therefore <\/span>has the <\/span>right to <\/span>independently <\/span>and without <\/span>agreeing with <\/span>anyone determine <\/span>the size <\/span>and procedure <\/span>for calculating <\/span>and paying <\/span>wages\u2026 <\/span>Additionally, <\/span>we inform <\/span>you that <\/span>the requested <\/span>information can <\/span>be obtained <\/span>from the <\/span>public part <\/span>of the <\/span>Unified State <\/span>Register of <\/span>Declarations\u2026”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
