Zelenskyy: Ukraine is ready to freeze the war along the current front line
After the ceasefire, Kyiv will seek security guarantees from its partners
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed in an interview that the country is ready to stop hostilities along the current frontline.
The journalist asked the head of state to assess a peace deal scenario: hostilities are frozen at the current positions, while more than 75% of the country’s territory remains under Ukrainian control. Asked whether he would agree to such an option, the president answered in the affirmative.
“Yes, we could freeze everything right now. I believe this is a realistic path to ending this war,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
After hostilities cease, Kyiv will seek security guarantees from US President Donald Trump and its European allies. The Ukrainian president phrased his demand to Russia as follows:
“We call this a ceasefire or a cessation of killings, as President Trump put it. Freeze and stop. And, of course, this is the minimum we are demanding from Russia today,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
At the same time, Donald Trump believes that Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin can reach an agreement to end the war without meeting in person. The US president also urged Ukraine to seek a deal and warned that the situation could worsen if no agreement is reached.
