A stepson in Mykolaiv region to stand trial for stabbing his stepfather in the chest

In the Mykolaiv region, investigators have completed the pre-trial investigation into a case involving a 37-year-old man accused of seriously stabbing his stepfather. The prosecutor’s office has already submitted the indictment to court. The attack took place on August 12 in a village in the Pervomaisk community.

According to investigators, late in the evening the stepson came home intoxicated and argued with his family. During the altercation, he stabbed his 55-year-old stepfather in the chest. Police seized a knife and other physical evidence at the scene.

Investigators then detained the man in accordance with criminal procedure and notified him that he was suspected of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court ordered that the suspect be held in custody without the possibility of bail.

After gathering evidence and completing the investigation, investigators sent the indictment to the prosecutor’s office, which then submitted it to court for consideration on the merits. The man faces up to 8 years in prison for inflicting grievous bodily harm. The court will decide his case.

Under Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict handed down by a court.
